As the flowers begin to bloom this spring, so does our overwhelming need to clean. After the cold weather and claustrophobia of the winter season pass, it's time to start fresh and get our lives in order for the springtime. This bright season tends to motivate us to get our houses and apartments in tip-top shape after (probably) not cleaning much all winter.
However, there are other things that are important to spring clean, such as our minds. Usually, spring means it's the start of midterms and finals are right around the corner. Although the summer is growing nearer and nearer, there are still those last couple of dreadful weeks of classes before we get the long break we all need.
Therefor, it's important to spring clean our minds before moving forward to ensure we finish out the semester strong. The fall semester and winter months can leave us full of stress and anxiety, so here are five tips for clearing your mental state come spring.
1. Reorganize.
Most of us organize at the beginning of the school year or the semester, but by the time spring rolls around, we are knee deep in work, and it's probably time to reorganize. If you filled out your agenda or planner already for the semester, go back and double check while adding other events and deadlines as you go. Things are always popping up, so I'm sure there are more to-do's to mark on all of our calendars.
Also, it's a good idea to reorganize your living space or wherever you study. After getting halfway through the semester, our rooms can be scary--there are papers everywhere and most likely food wrappers and water bottles forming an army on the floor. Take a couple of hours to tidy up your living space. It will refresh your mind and give you that extra push to finish the semester.
2. Take a day to rest.
Taking a day to nap or just do absolutely nothing at all can be very beneficial in the long run. We are constantly juggling a million and one things, especially in the middle of the semester. So taking a day off from the stresses of reality can really help recharge our minds.
So, pop some popcorn, make some coffee or tea and turn on Netflix for the day. You'll wake up the following morning refreshed and ready to go. Taking mini-breaks can really make a difference.
3. Get outdoors.
Spring means the weather is beautiful and the flowers are beginning to paint the landscape with an array of pastels. Go outdoors for a walk, hike or even a quick yoga session. Breathing in some fresh air and spending a minute alone outdoors can be very refreshing and give you some much needed peace of mind.
If you are more of a social butterfly, grab your significant other or some friends and spend the day in the park. Having a picnic or playing some sports outside can set a good tone for the rest of this wonderful season.
Happy spring!
