If you're from Upstate, you probably have heard these things at least once or twice in your life. Yes, Upstate is rural.. No, it's not under a rock.
1. "Have you ever been to a 'real' city?"
What, exactly, constitutes a city as a "real" city? Last I knew, it was the population that made a place a city, not your opinion! Also, Upstate isn't Netherland.. we do travel!
2. "Do you live on a farm?"
Believe it or not, this isn't that insulting, seeing as farms are beautiful and farmers are incredibly hardworking people who sustain our food industry. However, there are other places to live! Upstate, like everywhere else, has apartments, condos, lake houses, suburbs, and the occasional camping tent.
3. "Oh, yeah, you probably wouldn't know about (insert pop-culture reference here)"
WE HAVE INTERNET. I repeat, WE HAVE INTERNET. Yes, Upstate is rural and sometimes cell service is hard to come by. We do have internet, however, and it's usually pretty good. Also, as crazy as it is, we have normal tv, and social media, and everything you have! The only difference is we have more cows.
