I have always grown up with a strong Christian faith and when I was younger, I felt that because of my innocent view on the world, it was truly easier to trust the path that God had for me. As I got older and started to see the complexity of things and how cruel the world could be sometimes, it became a little harder to trust the path my life was taking. Now, at nearly 20 years old, I have found the kind of heart that allows me to trust the path ahead for me. When I started focusing on what God has in store for me, I learned a couple things about trusting His path for us.
1. Everything happens for a reason.
I know it may sound cliche, but it's completely true. Here's a story to prove it: When I was in middle school I was on the dance team and I played trumpet in band class. I knew that when I got to high school that I would have to choose which activity out of the two I would get fully involved in and I had no clue which one I would choose because I loved them both. Well, one day, when I was in 8th grade, I was sore from a dance competition the night before, so I decided to stretch out my muscles. When I went into the splits, I broke my pelvis which inevitably made it so that I couldn't dance for a long while. Looking back I remember being extremely upset when my injury happened, not just because it was painful, but I loved dancing and I was extremely confused as to why after over a decade of my life doing the splits this one time went wrong. Now when I look back on that day, I can see how my path was to be in band all along, I mean if I hadn't broken my pelvis, I wouldn't have done marching band in high school and if I hadn't done marching band, I would have never joined the band in college and I would have never gotten the opportunity to travel the country for NCAA tournaments! No matter what happens to all of us in our lives, there is a literal reason why things we don't expect to happen in our lives happen.
2. His plan is better than any plan you can make.
You know those people who tell you that they will be in your wedding one day but when you all go to separate colleges they never text you or talk to you again, or those relationships you think will last a lifetime but then they suddenly fall apart and you're left wondering what went wrong? God took them out of your life to make room for the people who are truly meant to stay. It's easy for us as human beings to try and make plans of our own and try to define our own future and while yes it is important to think of your future on your own, always remember that when there's a bump in the road (if you don't get the job you worked hard towards, it doesn't work out with that guy you may have loved, etc.) it was all a part of God's true plan for your life. His plan for your life is bigger and better than anything you can conjure up yourself, so trusting his plan is how you find your true purpose.
3. God doesn't give you more than you can handle.
This is something I always have to remind myself when I feel overwhelmed or I feel like the world is too hard to handle. I think it's easy for us as humans to focus on the temporary things in life rather than looking at the bigger picture. It's easy to let the small things bring us down but it's important to remember the lessons that each situation gives us in the end. We learn and we grow. Nothing in this world is meant to break you, rather it is meant to strengthen you and allow for growth. Don't get bogged down by your present struggles, focus on the future you.
