The responsibilities that come with parenting are undoubtedly overbearing for those who don't plan their pregnancy—specifically those who aren't ready for parenthood. Looking back at my adolescent years I never thought so many people around my age (23) would be parents. Of course, accidents happen and not everyone supports abortion. Even so, I don't believe that one's faith should deter them from pondering the drastic changes that come with having a baby. I don't know about you, but I want to attain my degree, travel, and acquire a stable career before I even think about kids. Here's three things to consider in regards to parenthood, whether it's planned or accidental:
1. Financial Stability
It's no secret that raising children is extremely expensive. If you can barely afford to pay your rent then you certainly shouldn't be having a baby. Is it really fair to bring a child into this world if you can hardly provide for them? Aim for financial security before having kids so you can give them the world rather than wish you could. There is a right time for everything and a lot of times people decide to have children at an inconvenient time in their life.
2. Relationship Stability
Solidity within your relationship is key because raising a child is endlessly stressful. If your relationship causes you a great amount of strain then having a baby will only provide more pressure. Some believe that having a child will relieve the tension in a relationship. Although there's exceptions, don't assume having a baby will fix your partnership. Both you and your partner should self-reflect than reflect on your relationship before you attempt at getting pregnant.
3. Lifestyle Changes
It’s not just about you anymore. In fact, it’s primarily about the child. This seems like common knowledge, but there are young couples who realize too late the price parenting comes with. If you're the type who parties on a regular basis then know that part of your life will be put to rest. If your social life isn't relevant to you then there's other things to consider like cutting back on school and/or work. A great deal of your time should be dedicated to your baby, but some think it's okay to expect their parents to care for the child on a regular basis. Your baby, your responsibility.
