Bobby Bones is a famous name in the country music world. You might know him as the host of the Bobby Bones Show, the most famous country music radio show in the country or as a stand-up comedian.
Either way, he lives his life in Nashville but travels all over the country living his dream. Comedy is one of his passions, but so is giving back.
Bobby Bones gives back to his old stomping grounds by providing a scholarship to a student from his high school in Mountain Pine, Arkansas, and even dedicates his time and money to helping those diagnosed with cancer. Bobby Bones is the epitome of success, but what most people don't know is where he came from.
On March 17, 2017, Bobby Bones used the Ted Talk stage in Nashville to share his story. Not only did he captivate the audience's attention with his humor and honesty, but he talked about failure.
One topic we all know way too well but will never admit.
Here are 3 quotes to remember from Bobby Bones' TedxNashville talk:
1. It doesn't matter where you came from.
He grew up under the poverty line in Arkansas. His mom was a drug addict, so he was raised by his grandmother. Bobby Bones didn't want to be another rural Arkansas boy, he wanted to be a radio host. In the Ted Talk, he jokes about having Plan A and Plan B. Plan A: to be a radio host. Plan B: to go back to Plan A at all times. Having a rough childhood is not a barrier between you and a successful life.
2. Stop trying to be a CEO before offering to wash the walls.
Bobby Bones was rejected from 32 radio stations. Radio audition after radio audition and still he didn't stop auditioning. Each radio station told him to find another career because radio wasn't his path to success. So what did he do? Offered to wash the walls in the radio station building. Yes, a millionaire now was washing the walls at his dream job. He dreamed of being inside a radio station so he offered to scrub the walls. Goes to show that success comes from knowing what it is like to start from the bottom.
3. It's okay to take 3 steps back before taking 1 step forward.
"The most important thing is having the resilience to get back up after failing."
Being rejected is never easy, especially when it comes to affecting your career. The people who rise above failure are the ones who ask their rejectors "Why am I not good enough?" Taking one step in the right direction comes with knowing why those other steps went in the wrong direction. As long as you're moving, then you are growing.
"I use losing as a tool and I think a lot of us don’t see losing as a positive at all. But if we do, that’s where we can start to succeed. " - Bobby Bones
