Finding great roommates can sometimes feel like searching for gold in coal mines.

It's hard work and you might not come out with anything special. There are certain attributes that all true and genuine roommates will posses.

So let's check it out here!

1. Knowing what the word cleanliness means.

Like it or not, no matter how friendly your roommate is, having a friendly AND clean roommate is the bees knees. Because let's face it ladies, we can be pretty disgusting! I mean, just look at the bathrooms at school - which is another topic for another day. So when you find that special someone who cleans up after herself and willingly helps with kitchen duties, you've found yourself a roomie for a lifetime.

2. Being a friendly person.

I've been incredibly lucky to have had some awesome roommates. The countless late-night girl talks raging on guys to having deep talks about social issues. These girls aren't just people I live with during the school year, their people I feel honored to meet my family. And if you have the opportunity to meet my family, you're a winner in my eyes.

3. Boundaries.

There's an unspoken rule when you live with another person that if something isn't yours, don't take it without permission. It's common sense and when someone doesn't respect that rule then living with them can be a nightmare. A friend once told me a story of her mother's ex-roommate stealing her clothes and actually wearing them out in public. For real! That girl had no shame.

4. Not touching the thermostat every 5 minutes.

Every semester we have a mandatory roommate agreement meeting where we go in detail over each person's living quirks and sleep habits. It's required to avoid major issues coming up later in the semester which if we're honest, will always come up sooner than later. So when you have a roommate who respects that you're naturally always cold and doesn't mess with the thermostat at 12am in the morning resulting in you having to get up and turn it off or up, that's bestie for life.

5. The absence of a 5th roommate aka "the boyfriend."

I don't have much of a problem when a roommate's significant other comes over but when you're practically living in the apartment, rent-free, then it becomes a problem. Having someone understand those boundaries and work with you is someone you should count your lucky stars you know. Coming from experience, it can be annoying when the boyfriend is constantly over, you can't fall asleep because of the noise, and you hear everything and I mean everythingthey do.

6. Celebrating the end of exams together with dinner.

There's nothing like bonding over the ups and downs of the past semester. And once finals are over you can both relax and celebrate by getting drinks or dinner together. Last semester my roommate & I celebrated the end of a long and exhausting semester by each cooking a dish together. We had such a great time and it really brings a closeness to the relationship.

7. Someone to watch movies with.

One of my favorite pastimes is watching tv shows, more specifically Netflix shows. Add a roommate to the mix and it's movie night every week! My old roommate and I were both watching Dexter at the same time and would chat over what happened in that episode and gush over our favorite moments. It's the small moments that really make everything and I miss those times we had together.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
