25 Inexpensive Summer Bucket List Items
Irene Yi

Summer vacation entails many things, one of those being the opportunity for adventure. That doesn't necessarily have to mean crazy antics or the pure wild of teenage spirit; it can simply mean something new. Or even just something interesting. Summertime is about the little things that bring joy. If you're looking for a good summer bucket list, look no further. I've even assigned point values to some fairly inexpensive--but nonetheless adventurous--summer activities that will leave you with three months of happiness.

1. Sleep on nature. (3 points. It's not that hard to sleep in a field.)

2. Not sleeping at all. Stay up all night. I mean, who looks back on their life and remembers the nights they got plenty of sleep? (6 points--stay strong, even when the 5 AM tiredness hits.)

3. If you do want to sleep, though, try camping on a beach. (6 points because you have to watch out for storm warnings.)

4. Or glamping. I've never done it, but it sounds like quite the experience. (5 points.)

5. Go to as many bonfires as possible. I love when my blankets smell like bonfire. (4 points.)

6. Wake up to see the sunrise from a tall hill. (7 points for waking up and 2 points for climbing up a hill.)

7. Wake up to see the sunrise from the beach. (Again, 7 points for waking up.)

8. Drive to chase the sunset. (3 points.)

9. When there's a thunderstorm, drive to chase the storm. Bonus points if there's a tornado involved. (5 points for chasing, and you can add a solid 5 points if it's during a tornado warning. Add 3 more if the tornado actually touches down.)

10. Dance in the rain. (3 points, though you can add a point if you get a cold from it--that's dedication.)

11. Jump into the river from a bridge. Make sure to stay safe, though! (5 points.)

12. Hit up ALL the graduation parties you can. (6 points.)

13. Roll down your car windows and belt out your favorite song. (3 points.)

14. Make a breakfast smoothie. (3 points.)

15. Accidentally fall asleep on the side of a pool or a beach. (5 points for sunburn pity.)

16. Go hiking. (3 points.)

17. Write in a journal every night before bed. Write about your summer adventures. I promise, you will not regret doing this. (7 points f you're fairly consistent.)

18. Discover antique stores. (3 points.)

19. Go out to brunch with your parents. (3 points.)

20. Go thrift shopping. (3 points, and a bonus 3 points if you impulse buy with no regrets.)

21. Go on a road trip. (6 points.)

22. Go adventuring into a new part of town and find new quirks about the place you live in. (5 points.)

23. Rediscover your old favorite songs. (3 points.)

24. Learn a new skill. (5 points.)

25. Have hobbies. (5 points.)

So, how many points did you come up with in the end?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
