25 Thoughts I've Had Since Transferring To UNCW

If I've learned anything so far it's that I definitely belong here.

25 Thoughts I've Had Since Transferring To UNCW

Everyone who reads my articles knows that this semester I transferred to UNC Wilmington. It's now been a month since I moved in and we have been in classes for over three weeks now. I like to think that now that I've formed sort of a groove that I'm starting to actually fit in to my new school. Here are some thoughts that I've had over the past few weeks as I meet new people, start taking classes for my major and join a few clubs on campus.

1. This campus is so freaking pretty

2. How could it be so humid here?

3. Everybody long boards here...maybe I should learn...

My roommates taught me how and it's actually really fun! I would much rather bike, though.

4. Most of my instructors are TAs... this is kind of cool

5. Every one in my classes is literally so hilarious

6. Wag Out is open until 1 AM? BLESS.

Fun fact: their gluten free pizza is actually really good!

7. I'm so glad that I live on campus

8. I literally want to join all of the clubs possible

I've joined the literary magazine, been elected President of Area Council for my apartment complex and am wanting to join a few more clubs. Who needs sleep?

9. Who says a girl that has barely been a student here for a month can't love this place as much as she does already?

10. I love how sassy my editing class is

Seriously. All Matt (the guy I sit next to in this class) and I do is make sassy comments. It's always the highlights of my Mondays and Wednesdays.

11. So...why can't we use food dollars at Cookout??

12. The people in my major are seriously so nice

13. Why can't my favorite spot in Randall ever be open?

Yes, I've had a favorite spot in the library since the first week.

14. Time to take my third shower of the day...

15. My roommates are the sweetest people ever, I love them so much

Seriously, thank you for making my birthday so great.

16. How many times do I have to read about a failed marriage/relationship in this fiction class?

17. Can I go to the beach today, or should I go tomorrow?

18. Why oh WHY is Port City Java so far away?

19. We just spent 30 minutes talking about sharks and the beach in Spanish...this is the kind of Spanish class I can handle

We may get off topic very easily in this class, but I promise, we do actually learn!

20. BLESS being able to park any where on campus after 4. I really didn't want to walk to my editing class, anyways...

It's just too humid to make the 20 minute walk...

21. I can't get over how beautiful the rec center is

22. I want to befriend every one in all of my classes

If you can't tell, I'm a really big fan of my peers.

23. My classes would be in one of the farthest away buildings...

24. I need more UNCW t-shirts in my life

25. Oh, how I love my school so much.

Honestly, I know I'm not going to graduate on time, and that's okay with me. I joined Team Teal two years too late, so I've got some catching up to do. Plus with a possible double major, a minor, and a publishing certificate, there's no way I'm getting out in two years. The more time here the better, right?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
