25 Signs You Are An Old Soul
Whitney Todd

I’ve been told I have an old soul. Is that just because I think Chico’s is an extremely fashionable store to shop at? Is it because I go to bed at 10:00 pm every night (10:30 pm on a rambunctious night)? Is it because I am obsessed with handwritten letters and hate texts? I know there are more of you out there. We, the old souls, are put to the test every day in this society.

My body is young, but my soul is old. My mind definitely drifts in between.

Old souls can all relate to a lot of things.

1. We believe in chivalry, romance and true love.

2. We are all old souls but with young hearts. We are naïve enough to love and wise enough to learn.

3. We are a three page love letter in a world full of relationship status updates.

4. We tend to be introverted. A book and a night off will suffice.

5. We tend to think that the simple things are the most beautiful.

6. We think that wisdom and truth are so intriguing and vital.

7. We look at the big picture, trying (oh so hard) to not focus on the small worldly things.

8. We often think maturity is oh so important.

9. We love intellectual conversations; getting something and somewhere in conversations with people.

10. We admire people with old school manners. Someone who holds the door open, opens the car door, looks you in the eye and the list goes on…

11. We define ourselves by our favorite songs, our favorite books, that special kind of ice cream and our passions.

12. You know to never argue with an idiot. Why? Because they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

13. We know that sometimes the best leaders know how and when to be a follower.

14. We absolutely love the idea of being home and with your loved ones.

15. You look into the other side of the issue. You like to see and learn the other perspective.

16. It’s all about the little things in life.

17. We know not to raise your voice, rather improve your argument.

18. Elegance, poise and grace are the goal.

19. We have a way with words, but sometimes words have a way with us.

20. We don’t try to be anything other than ourselves.

21. We believe that in a world full of trends, we want to remain a classic.

22. We thrive when people watching.

23. Attention isn’t really our thing.

24. Even when the emails are piling up, we never forget to call our grandmothers.

25. We admire the people who are nothing but themselves.

So yes, I do love older-lady fashion. I do go to bed early. I do not be as spontaneous as I should. I get the same thing at every restaurant I go to, a hamburger (I don’t like new things). I could probably get pulled over by going under the speed limit. I love classical music. I feel scandalous when wearing a v-neck shirt. A wild night for me is getting a pop instead of water at dinner.

But, old souls are so stunning. Some souls are too old to be captured in poems and books. They are too old to be loved by everyone. But, they are oh so loved deeply by very few. Every soul is different, and every soul is amazing. This variation between all of us is what provides the curiosity we need in life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
