With my 25th birthday rapidly approaching, as well as an imminent quarter-life crisis, I've been looking back on all the things I've learned while walking through my life. Whether good or bad, I can definitely say I've learned a lot more than just 24 things. There've been things I'll take with me to my grave, things I've forgotten the second they've been taught to me, and others that are as meaningless as they are interesting. Here are just a few I'd like to share.

1. High school friends aren't forever friends. At least most of the time.

2. 9 times out of 10, your mom is right. Unless it's my mom, then she always is.

3. Blood isn't always thicker than water.

4. Boybands are always amazing, no matter how old you are.

5. Watch what you say on social media. Seriously.

6. Make a LinkedIn account and actually use it.

7. Write. Write everything. Keep a journal and scream out your thoughts.

8. Don't keep things bottled in.

9. Be grateful for what you have.

10. Don't get drunk and lay down. The room will spin, you'll throw up, and then ruin your favorite duvet cover.

11. Speaking of alcohol, just stay away from fireball whiskey.

12. Drink more water.

13. Travel as much as you can.

14. You can never have too many cardigans.

15. Sometimes, the only way you're going to learn is by screwing up. It's inevitable.

16. If you have a long-distance friend, see them as much as you can. Talk to them every day, even if you just say hi.

17. Take pictures. Take so many that people get mad at you, and then take more.

18. Take the time to pick the college you want. Not the one your parents want, not the one your significant other wants; the one you want to go to.

19. Your card is going to decline on a $5 purchase at Wal-Mart at least once. It's okay. It happens to all of us.

20. Wear makeup because you want to, not because you feel pressure to. You're beautiful with or without it.

21. Sometimes moving away from home is the best thing you can do for yourself.

22. Don't be afraid to spread your wings.

23. There's going to be times you get your heart broken and it feels like nothing will ever be okay again. Trust me, everything will be fine. Better, even.

24. Oh, and one more thing! Always pack headphones.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
