23 Thoughts We Have When We Aren't Teenagers Anymore
Evan Krause

Each and every day you spend alive, you progressively get older. It's simply the facts. But one day out of the whole entire year is a day we tend to celebrate - the day of our birth. You can either like or dislike your birthday, but either way, it is a milestone that marks the progression of life and one's self.

Throughout these many birthdays you will experience, each one is different in a way that it marks a special time in your life. Turning double digits, the big 10, is a birthday you'll always remember. Then hitting your "teen" years at 13 is a time when your parents being to worry that their innocent children may not be so innocent anymore. But then you get to 20 and you wonder what it's like not to be a teenager anymore.

Our teen years are a time for us to adventure, explore, and learn about ourselves. It is the end of middle school, high school, and the start of college for some. These years are crucial to our social life, personal life, and educational hopes, all due to the fact that they lead us into the paths we will take in our future endeavors.

As we leave our teen years and move onto adulthood, many thoughts arise in our not so young brains. These questions we may ask ourselves include...

1. Is being a kid in the past?

2. Does being 20 mean it's time to get a real job?

3. Now that our teen years are behind us, what's ahead?

4. Is life now more complicated?

5. Will we be looked at differently?

6. Is it time to find a future partner?

7. Do I need to know what profession I want to take on?

8. Is partying like a freshmen still acceptable?

9. Are my parents still going to support me?

10. What are the consequences of turning 20?

11. Is it still acceptable to consider myself a teenager?

12. Can I still celebrate with a birthday cake and princess crown?

13. Is it time to face my fears?

14. Do I need to know exactly what I want in life?

15. Now that I am an adult, do I have to act like one?

16. Will I still receive birthday presents?

17. Can my life still be better than it is now?

18. Am I where I want to be at this point in my life?

19. Should I set more goals for myself?

20. Is it weird to want to still do little kid activities?

21. Will I be judged if I don't act my age?

22. What will turning 20 bring me?

23. Can I still want to live at home?

All of these questions are completely valid to ask yourself when you turn 20. But are you supposed to really know the answer? For some, you may think yes, and for others, you may think no. The reason is that each day you learn something new about yourself, and as you do, you answer these questions one-by-one.

However, there is no time clock on when each one of these thoughts need to be answered. Take each day as it comes. Live life to the absolute fullest. And just because you are out of your teen years, it doesn't prevent you from growing into the person you hope to be.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
