I know you're probably counting down the days until Halloween. If you're like me, Halloween doesn't start on October 31st; it starts on the first day of the month, maybe even before. Halloween stays fun consistently from when you're little to when you're older; you get to dress up, have fun with your friends, get treats, and play some tricks. If you're obsessed with Halloween, you know these things are true.
1. Halloween starts on midnight on October first, and not a second later.
You need a whole month to prepare.
2. Your costume is the most important part, so you need to plan ahead.
Whether you're going for scary, funny, or sexy, costumes are essential. You don't care if it's weather appropriate--Halloween costumes are an art form, and you're willing to suffer for your art.
3. You need all elements of your costume to be PERFECT.
How can you be Morticia Addams without black nails?! And whoever heard of a Ghostbuster without a proton pack?!
4. You comb through Netflix for scary movies and shows to addd to your list.
Besides watching classics like Hocus Pocus, Scream or Halloween, be sure to check out The Others, The Babbadook, or Hush, or shows like Slasher and Salem.
5. You have a Halloween playlist ready.
It has the entire Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack, the Twilight Zone theme song, and your favorite eerie tunes.
6. You go all-out with the decorations.
Whether you're living at home or in a dorm, your living space has to match the season. You've got orange lights, sticky ghosts on the windows, plastic spiders on the ceiling, festive throw pillows, and haunted props: there's no such thing as too much!
7. You count down the days until Spirit releases its yearly costume collection.
8. You wait all year for Halloween stores to start popping up.
When one opens near you, it's like Christmas in October!
9. You stock up on candy within the first two weeks of October; it's not just for the 31st!
10. You try to get your friends to dress up too.
Group costumes are just as much fun as going solo!
11. You roll your eyes when people tell you you're too old for trick or treating.
I dress up, you give me candy. That's the deal.
12. Although you know you don't have to go door-to-door for a spooktacular time.
Sometimes Halloween means going out (or staying in!) with your pals.
13. You hold each others' hands during the scary parts of your favorite movies and binge on candy together.
True friends share their trick-or-treat bags. Candy tastes better when shared with others.
14. Or you go out to a Halloween party to show off your fabulous costumes!
Someone needs to appreciate how much effort you put in!
15. You've always wanted to throw a Halloween party to show off your creepy and creative side...
...better get some ideas now so you can start planning for next year!
16. The morning of November 1st, you feel like you're waking up with a hangover.
(You really might be, I'm not judging.)
17. But you know it's PHD.
Post-Halloween Depression!
18. You leave the decorations up as long as possible.
You wonder how many you can get away with keeping up all year.
19. Even though the pumpkins may be packed away, you know you can watch your favorite scary movies all year round when you need a dose of Halloween spirit.
20. And you'll look for any excuse to repurpose your past costumes during the off-season.
21. After all, next Halloween will be here before you can say "boo!"
