21 Thoughts I Had While Watching The Bachelor For The First Time
ABC

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you probably haven’t been able to escape talk about the latest season of ABC’s "The Bachelor." Every Monday night for two full hours millions of people watch as the current Bachelor, Ben Higgins, attempts to find love. He does this while simultaneously “dating” around 30 girls at one time. Now if you’re like me and that concept sounds crazy, then you probably aren’t an avid watcher of the show.

While the series has been on air since 2002, this is the first season that I have ever watched. When I was younger my parents tried to steer me away from watching “trashy” reality television shows, and I never really had an interest in them anyway. (I also hate the Kardashians, but that’s an article topic for another time). It wasn’t until I moved into my first college apartment that Monday night Bachelor watching parties became a thing. One of my roommates and a few of my sorority sisters have been following the show for years, and they finally convinced me to “waste two hours of my life each week” to watch it.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think the idea of finding love sounds great, but I’ve always been skeptical of reality TV dating shows. I mean come on, I’m sure half of it is just what the producers tell the contestants to do in order to help ratings. Nevertheless, I decided to give The Bachelor a shot and here are 21 thoughts I’ve had so far while watching the show.

1. Okay, so the new Bachelor is named Ben Higgins. Hmm he’s kind of cute.

2. Wait he was on a previous season? I’m so confused. (My friends later informed me that they do casting based on who was previously on "The Bachelorette").

3. He says he’s “unlovable?” Eyeroll.

I mean look at him, he’s hot, family oriented and sweet. How could no one love him?!

4. Okay, so how many hot girls are arriving in limos in order to meet him?

5. They are literally all gorgeous. Do you think if I eat less pizza I could look like one of them?

6. Wait, so they all came up with ways to “make an impression” on him? This should be good.

7. LOL that girl jumping into his arms right out of the limo was so awkward.

8. If I were Ben I’d be really uncomfortable and confused about what to do with some of these girls.

9. Dudeee. Ben literally just said he didn’t want to kiss any of the girls until later in the show and that girl just kissed him right after getting out of the limo!

10. What was her name? Oh, Lace. Hmm I’ll keep my eye on her.

11. Okay so now he has to go around and try and talk to all the girls and then decide who to keep and who to cut?

12. How is he supposed to remember who’s who?

Literally half of them have blonde, wavy hair. They should at least give them cool name tags or something.

13. This reminds me of rush just a tad.

“Hey, where are you from? What brought you here? Tell me a little about yourself." Yup. Definitely giving me rush flashbacks.

14. Woahhh this Lace girl is crazy.

15. So he has to give a “first impression rose” to one of the girls?

Again, how does he keep them all straight?! He gave it to Olivia. She’s pretty. If I were one of the other girls I’d keep my eye on her.

16. Okay, so he gave a rose to 21 girls.

Man it must suck to get eliminated the first night. Like imagine already being super single, and then not get chosen to “date” the same guy as 20 other girls at once.

17. OMG. Did Lace really just pull him aside because he “didn’t make eye contact” with her?

That’s it, this girl is nuts and clearly being kept because the producers like her.

18. Okay, first episode down.

It was only two hours of my life, and honestly it went by kind of quick.

19. Man I really hope I don’t get addicted to this stupid show.

20. You know, I’m super single right now. What do you think the age requirement is to be on the show?

21. Boys watch out, I’m totally gonna be the next Bachelorette!

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate.
