2020 has been an awful year, but the good news is that 2021 won't be worse. In fact, here are some of the once-in-a-lifetime events that can't possibly recur in 2021.
A WWIII scare
Remember when we killed that big Iranian official and WWIII memes became a thing?
Half of Australia catching fire
While it seems like forever ago, it's been less than a year since half the continent was burning.
Losing our favorite new members of the royal family
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took us all for a spin with stepping back from royalty news.
The president being impeached
Only 3 in US history, yet I can't say I'm surprised that it happened this past year.
The loss of Kobe Bryant
I barely watch basketball, but this one still hit hard.
Knowing nothing about the coronavirus
Remember when they said masks were unnecessary, we shouldn't wear them, and the virus was spread almost solely from touching things?
The great toilet paper shortage
This only happened in the United States. Why were we so worried about getting toilet paper?
Massive lockdowns across the world
Although coronavirus is getting way worse right now, all the new vaccines should slowly bring us back to normal.
Massive drops in the economy
Even though it takes time for the economy to bounce back after a recession, statistical rules say it won't be getting worse.
Tom Brady leaving the Patriots
Fan or not, this had to bother you. For me, now I have to hate the Patriots and his new team.
The Democratic primaries
Literally, why do the first 15 states never change, and why are they the only ones that matter in primaries?
Massive riots
As important as protests are, and as much as nothing ever really changes without riots, I'm glad that those are in the past, for now. I think the point came across, and people know they're beginning to get justice. We still have a long way to go to end racism and reform our police, but our opinions have been heard, and people are standing together.
No Olympics
Tokyo said they're having them in 2021 no matter what, and I'm excited to watch the soccer teams.
Chadwick Boseman dying
It's always hard to see a star die at the start of the biggest peak in their career.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg dying
And her iconic charge for justice ending with her replacement...
The president only paying $750 in federal taxes
What is that, like .00000015% of the millions he made? (If he made $500,000,000 this percentage is accurate.)
The presidential debates
I don't need to say more here.
The plot to torture and murder our governors
2020 was so crazy that I forgot about this absolutely insane one until researching this article.
Alex Trebek's death
I don't know how that guy managed to be so cool when hosting the nerdiest TV show ever, but he did, and my heart broke a little on this one.
Election lawsuits
How many ways can judges say no? Over 50.
Donald Trump's presidency
This will technically occur for 20 more days, but we all still date things with the previous year for at least a month, so it doesn't really count.
Honorary addition of what 2021 won't end
12+ things we can't just get rid of: murder hornet invasion, massive sexual assault scandals, police shootings and brutality, racism, Muslim internment camps, India's attempt to become a Hindu state, California wildfires, coronavirus deaths, earthquakes, tsunamis, plane crashes, Zoom work and classes, and everything else not listed above.
Sadly, 2021 isn't going to appear and solve everything. We will still have these problems, but at least we won't have the other 21.
