With the holidays upon us, and the lazy, cookie-eating days that come with them, it can be hard to regain all the motivation lost during the season of gift-giving and celebration.
Especially as a college student, winter break can leave us feeling less-than enthusiastic about returning to our non-stop schedules in a couple weeks. Getting back to the motivation to work hard can be a difficult task, but once you get the ball rolling, adjusting back to a busy schedule might not be so bad.
One thing that I personally am aiming to do in 2020 is start a bullet journal. A bullet journal is essentially for you to keep track of anything you want- 2020 goals, to-do lists, major events... you name it. You can make it anything you want that you believe will help you be successful throughout the year. I plan on using this to track assignments, daily or weekly tasks, healthy habits, and other small things like this. Having a visible reminder of the things you want to accomplish can make a big difference.
Another thing that I live by is neat space, neat mind. The space that we live in has a huge effect on our energy and motivation, and living in the middle of a giant mess does reflect on your life itself. If you are coming back from class and walking into a big pile of crap, there's a pretty high chance that you aren't going to feel very driven to sit down at a desk piled high with junk. However, if you keep things tidy and put everything where you can find it, it suddenly becomes much easier to walk into your room and decide to do something productive.
One small way to make progress towards a tidy space is to take those extra few minutes each morning and make your bed. Yes, every day, and yes, it does make a difference. If you make up your bed before leaving in the morning, you might be less inclined to get right back under the covers when you come home. Leaving your bed the way it was when you woke up means you have made it very easy for yourself to want to just lay around when you get back, but if you make your bed this is no longer true.
Getting motivated for the things to come can seem like a daunting task, but if you break it down into small steps, it becomes very achievable.
