This election is a very important one. With all the chaos happening in this country right now because of the neglectfulness and ignorance of Donald Trump and the Republicans, your vote matters, and is the only thing that can solve this problem. After Trump won in 2016, America and the world soon endured his tyrannical and childish behavior. The country became divided after he enabled his poorly educated supporters to spread racism, hate, and fear. We are experiencing a pandemic, stock market crash, and race riots as well. Although it will take many years to recover from the damage Donald Trump has done, by removing him from office, we can end his reign of terror, and give the future hope. However, actually getting people to vote is challenging. Here are the ways you can make sure your family, friends, and community go out and cast their ballot either in person or mail.

1. Make phone calls

One of the best ways to get your message across to your community is by calling your neighbors and friends. Start with a greeting. Have a script ready and explain to them the importance of voting. Ask them if they have questions about any political issue. Then discuss the differences between the nominees, and why one is the smartest choice over the other.

2. Post on Social Media

Everyone communicates and gets their news from online sources. If you want to make sure that people vote either create a page for your candidate or join and share on political Facebook groups. Posting Instagram stories encouraging your followers to vote is another option. Make sure to ask questions to increase engagement, and share on different platforms.

3. Sell campaign merchandise

Making campaign merch is a way to get people to vote. Practice creating designs and transfer the designs to a computer. Then you can create an online store that promotes hats, shirts, accessories, buttons, and stickers with your designs on them. It's a great way to get others to support your nominee while doing a side hustle and making some extra money.

4. Suggest absentee ballots

It is okay to feel worried about voting in person, especially now with the COVID-19 pandemic. You also cannot make anyone go. For those that do not want to risk leaving their house, they can request absentee ballots. Remind your family and friends that they have this option and encourage them to get one to fill out and mail to ensure that their vote counts.

5. Host a Zoom meeting to discuss issues

During the pandemic, everyone is using Zoom to communicate with each other personally and professionally. It can also be used for discussions about political subjects. Host a Zoom meeting and invite friends to talk about topics like unemployment and foreign policy. Have a civil debate and then afterward tell them to encourage their community to vote.

6. Gather for a peaceful protest

Protesting is a way to express how you feel about certain situations. Defending the human rights of minorities, fighting against police brutality, and standing up to corrupt politicians lets the community realize they can make positive changes by voting. Make sure to wear a mask and social distance while protesting. By reminding people that every vote matters and that putting the right people in charge will help improve the lives of every American, this might persuade them to vote.

7. Get petitions signed

To make sure that people vote, going around the neighborhood, and having them sign petitions is another great way to do it. However, due to COVID-19, creating, or sharing online petitions is the best alternatives. You can even create and send postcards in the mail or post to your social media pages reminding friends to vote. Petitions are important because many have resulted in positive changes for people and organizations that request assistance or need to get laws passed.

8. Contact public officials

To help get the word out and express your opinions, try to contact public officials to find out more how you can contribute to the election and find more information on your nominee. Contact local government officials and ask them questions that you have. Be sure to share links, pamphlets, and numbers with on social media. Make sure everyone's voice is heard.

9. Remind people to request time off in advance.

Those who are currently working during the pandemic or working remotely might feel that they cannot get the day off to vote on Election Day. Ask them to set a reminder for themselves to tell their boss a week in advance they need the day off in order to vote. Since voting is a right, they should be allowed the time to drive to the polls and cast their ballot. Sending an absentee ballot is another option if they cannot get time off, change their schedule, or get someone to cover their shift.

10. Tell family and friends to research the candidates

For those who just registered to vote for the first time or vote independent during the midterm elections, send them information or ask them to research the lives and accomplishments of the nominees running in the election. Remind them that they should vote on a candidate based on accurate research and the things that money cannot buy like honesty, common sense, intelligence, respect, and character. This can persuade them to vote, and make them decide if they have not been paying attention to the news, or registered in the past as a Republican, but are not blindly loyal to Trump.

11. Offer to carpool

Sometimes people may not be able to vote because they do not have access to transportation. Instead of having to pay money for an Uber to bring them to the vote, ask if they would like to carpool. Sharing a car saves on gas and limits fossil fuels. This will ensure that they get to the polls and their vote counts. They will appreciate your kindness in taking them.

12. Start a trending hashtag

One of the most popular social media platforms is Twitter. Celebrities use it to feud and stay relevant, companies for promoting merchandise, and Trump as a way to spread hate and lies. You can use it to get more people to vote. Make a hashtag that is unique and short with a picture and brief message. Post it when people are most active on Twitter.

13. Peer-to-Peer Texting

Use ThruText to send text messages to get people to head to the polls. It can also be used to invite people to campaign events, and ask important questions to voters. Normal text messages, emails, and social media posts can get ignored or disappear. This is a excellent way to connect with your community, meet new people, and increase voter turnout.

14. Email link to Voter Registration Form

Since October is the deadline to register online to vote, the quickest way to make sure that people are registered to vote is by emailing them the form needed to fill out. If they need help you can do a FaceTime or Zoom call explaining how to fill it out. Sending additional information about the election, nominees, and key issues are helpful as well. This is crucial since having this information will give them an insight into the race for President and get them more willing to vote.

15. Organize a fundraiser

Doing a fundraiser is a great way to increase voter turnout. Ask people to donate money for a charity or organization either through GoFundMe or Facebook. Choose a nonprofit that you support. After you have reached your goal, post a message giving thanks for the money given, and tell the donors that your candidate in the 2020 election will fight for all Americans, and not just himself to get them interested in voting for someone that is unselfish and kind.

16. Start a blog

Writing and sharing articles is a fun and relaxing way to express your feelings. If you have an opinion about current events or politics, submitting weekly articles and sharing them on social media will help with getting your message across. You might get more people interested in voting if you include links and facts about the candidate you are supporting. Posting on political Facebook groups and asking a question will increase traffic.

17. Share links or political news articles on Reddit

There are many users on Reddit in communities known as subreddits. Post articles, petitions, and news headlines related to the 2020 election or the candidates. Ask questions and interact with members that comment on your posts. This will give you an idea of their political views and possibly increase the chances that people will go vote to make a difference.

18. Print and distribute flyers

You can use Canva to make attention-grabbing political flyers to encourage people to vote. Add funny or serious text with an image. Hang the flyers around your neighborhood or ask for permission to attach them to a wall at your local supermarket or laundromat. By displaying your creativity and political beliefs more openly, people might consider voting.

19. Host a Netflix viewing party on Zoom

One of the most effective ways to get people's attention during this election is by hosting a party on Zoom and watching documentaries. Choose any political, environmental or health-related film or series. Afterward have a quick discussion and ask questions. Discover what policies your friends want enacting and tell them which candidate will get them done.

20. Ask people to make a calendar reminder.

Whether they use a real calendar or the phone app, remind family and friends to post the time they are going to vote on Election Day. Make sure that they set a reminder to let them know at least 10 minutes to an hour in advance for the actual day. To prepare them for the election, have conversations on Facebook or via text about big issues they want to be solved.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
