In today's wild world, anyone can run for president, as we obviously have learned with President Trump. Since Trump's election, we have seen several celebrities step up, and say they plan to run for president in 2020. So, I have taken three people who actually have gone public with their desires to run, and ranked them, worst to first.
3. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
This may be biased more than anything, but I personally would love to see Johnson run for president in 2020. The man has it all, good looks, herculean strength, people skills and a captivating sense around him. He recently said on Ellen that he is considering running in 2020, so let's see what a potential Rock campaign would look like.
Johnson has attended both Republican and Democratic conventions but says he is currently a registered Independent. He said he is toying with the idea purely because of his loyalty to the American people, which he has displayed through his genuine relationship to his 175 million followers across social media platforms.
He seems like he would run with Republicans, as he did give a speech at the 2000 RNC, and has also expressed his support for increased military and law enforcement in the U.S., but that is the beauty of it all. He can be a cross-party candidate since he hasn't held on to any policy ideas tightly and definitely could draw in people from both sides.
It will be big seeing if The Rock gets serious about this and what his platform will be, but he could definitely be a strong candidate in 2020— and not just physically.
2. Oprah Winfrey
Oprah's candidacy is less developed than Kanye's, but we still could see a run in 2020. After her speech at the Golden Globes, the world went nuts, calling for her to basically come and save the world. While I think it could happen, I don't think she is currently a strong candidate.
Since she has an amazing love and passion for people around her, I could see her running a lot more on the civil rights side of things than public policy, she has spoken out many times regarding women's rights and empowering young girls, both valid talking points in today's world.
Oprah has also supported increased background checks before people obtain guns, decreased political polarization, increased press freedom and easier ways for undocumented immigrants to gain citizenship. Oprah has all the tools to run, but we won't know until she actually runs how the public will receive her.
1. Kanye West
Ohhhh Kanye.
While I don't actually think we will be seeing Kanye run for president in 2020, it's still fun to speculate in the scenario that he did run. So, let's get started. This past year, in an interview Kanye said: "rappers are philosophers of our now, celebrities are the influencers of our now, just look at the president.”
While I think he's a little crazy, he may have a point. These days, the people of America seem to take much more information and allow themselves to be influenced by celebrities and musicians now more than ever. Think about it—when was the last time you really let a politician (who isn't named Barack) genuinely influence your thoughts and actions? Makes you wonder if Kanye is on to something.
If Kanye did run, I surprisingly think we could see him run as a Republican candidate. West has expressed his support for Trump many different occasions, saying in one of his concerts that he hopes Trump would build the wall. Kanye has also changed his view on racism in the United States seemingly. After saying "George Bush doesn't care about black people" in 2005, he recently said "specifically to black people, stop focusing on racism," he said. "This world is racist, OK? Let's stop being distracted to focus on that as much. It's just a f---ing fact: we are in a racist country, period." He continued to say "not one or the other candidate was going to instantly be able to change that because of their views."
Kanye has had many more ideas based on education, housing and his own philosophy on running for president, but until he actually decides to run, everything is just lip service.
We will see who prevails from this list (if any) as 2020 approaches, but it is always fun to speculate.
