We have only gotten through two months of 2018 and man have they been something.
1. Time's Up at the Golden Globes, January 7th
The 75th Gloden Globes sure was one to remember. The Time's Up movement took center stage with celebrities showing support by wearing black and Time's Up pins. This showed significant unification of the industry and how it is changing. Hollywood is evolving into an equal opportunity work environment for all genders and races.
2. False Missile Alert in Hawaii, January 14th
Hawaii residents and tourists were shocked to get an alert reading "BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. " The alert was later learned to be an accident and a false alarm alert was sent 38 minutes after the original message.
3. Kim Kardashian's third child is born, January 15th
Kim Kardashian announced the birth of her third child on Instagram with the hashtag #momofthree. Chicago West was born via surrogate. Kim has been very open when it comes to her pregnancy troubles with her first two kids, North and Saint, on the family show, Keeping up with the Kardashians.
4. Government Shutdown, January 20th- 22nd
We have all gotten used to these government shutdowns, yet they seem pointless. The main point of this shutdown is the DACA program. During shutdowns, all government employees do not receive pay, but the lawmakers who are responsible for the shutdown do, which is completely ridiculous.
5. School Shooting in Kentucky, January 23rd
Two people died and 18 more were injured in a school shooting at Marshall County High School. The shooter was a 15-year-old student armed with a handgun.He is being charged as an adult.
6. Kylie Jenner's first child is born, February 1st
After months of baggy clothes, laying low, and rumors Kylie Jenner announced the birth of her first child on February 4th, overshadowing Superbowl Sunday. Stormi Webster was born on February 1st to Kylie Jenner and boyfriend Travis Scott. Jenner gave a look at her lowkey pregnancy with an 11 and a half minute video on youtube.
7. The Winter Olympics, February 9th- 25th
The 23rd Winter Olympics were held in Sochi, South Korea. Long held tension with neighbor North Korea was put to the side for the games with both sides teaming together in a unified Korean women's hockey team. The US finished with nine gold medals, eight silver, and six bronze.
8. School Shooting in Florida, February 14th
Another school shooting leaves 17 dead in Parkland, Florida. The victims of this shooting are calling for change and making an unbelievable impact. Rallies and school walkouts are taking place around the country in support of the Parkland survivors.
9. Fergie's National Anthem, February 18th
Singer Fergie performed the national anthem at the 67th NBA All-Star Game: Team LeBron vs. Team Stephen and the reactions were less than pleasant. Her rendition has gotten a lot of attention on social media and has become the punchline in late comedy shows. If you have not seen the performance yet, watch it and judge for yourself.
10. Billy Graham Dies, February 21st
Billy Graham was a well known Evangelist. He was one of the most influential pastors of the 20th century, hosting his annual Billy Graham Crusades and his live rallies. He also served many presidents from Truman to Obama. Graham died of natural causes at the age of 99.
