With the new year upon us, working out and exercising more is at the top of the majority of people's resolution lists. I slacked off a lot during winter break and getting back to a consistent workout routine isn't going to be easy. The one thing that gives me motivation and makes it easier is a solid workout playlist. These are some of the songs that pump me up and help me forget the physical pain that I'm in.
1. Pre-Occupied (Jon Bellion)
It was so hard to pick one song by Jon Bellion because I'm obsessed with every song on his 2014 album "The Definition"; apparently I'm Patrick because I had to have been living under a rock to have just now heard about it. The drops in his songs are perfect for things like rowing, where you're so exhausted and need the sudden burst of energy to push through (or..pull, in this case) to the end. I also recommend "Ooh," "Luxury," "An Immigrant," "Simple & Sweet," and "Carry Your Throne" (OK, maybe just listen to the whole album to be safe).
2. Verbatim (Blackbear)
3. Random (G-Eazy)
4. Stand Up (The Cab)
This song is my perfect running song because I run exactly to the tempo of it. It obviously won't match everybody but if you're interested in finding a song to match your running speed, you can check out this website.
5. The Valleys (The Mountains)
I Shazamed this song from FIFA and it's been on repeat ever since. Sometimes you just need a good, chill beat to run to and this song has just that.
6. Bad Chick (SoMo)
This is the only song I listened to for about 48 hours straight (minus nap breaks) while studying for my Orgo final. If it got me through that, it can get you through anything.
7. Remember the Name (Fort Minor ft. Styles of Beyond)
If there is one song on planet Earth that I could listen to for the rest of time, it would probably be this. Never gets old.
8. Lost (Frank Ocean)
In honor of Frank...who must be hiding in the Alaskan wilderness with some eskimos because he sure isn't out here dropping his album >:/
9. Young & Stupid (Travis Mills, T.I.)
10. 2 Heads (Coleman Hell)
11. The Less I Know the Better (Tame Impala)
12. Salt (Bad Suns)
13. Don't Worry (Madcon)
There's nothing like people telling you "don't worry about a thing" for three and a half minutes to motivate you.
14. Fancy Footwork (Chromeo)
The entire "Step Up 3" soundtrack is pretty amazing and this is no exception.
15. Ties (Years & Years)
Again, it was hard to pick one song by this band. This is music I listen to nonstop -- in the car, while studying, while running, while walking, while eating....it's just so good. Other songs I recommend are: "Shine," "Desire," "Gold," "Worship," and "Border" (for working out) and the rest of the album (for your own good).
16. Blackout (Breathe Carolina)
Old but gold.
17. Face Down (The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus)
Old but gold, part 2.
18. Flash Mich (Mark Forster)
Because what's a workout playlist without some German pop music?
19. Pumpin Blood (NONONO)
Other than the fact that it's a good song, the title is too fitting not to include it.
If you're trying to get fit or just healthy, good luck and here is my Spotify playlist to help you along your way!
