2016 Olympics: Is This Just What We Need?
Q100 Atlanta

So many things have happened recently here in America and all I see is how broken our country is. We have an upcoming election and all it looks like is a big reality tv show about two enemies. The Black Lives Matter movement is at an all time high right now and deaths are becoming more and more prominent from terrorist attacks to police brutality. We need something to bring America together and it is not going to be a president. Sorry, but that's a fact. There is something coming up on August 5th, the 2016 Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Now, I do not know about you, but my patriotism comes to an all time high when this event comes on. I honestly think that this is what we need right now in America.

We need the Olympics. We need this peace.

The Olympics is a worldwide sporting event that is held every four years. This seems to bring the world together in peace as each country's citizens cheer for the gold. The Olympics has an international symbol consisting of five different colored rings. These five rings represent the five parts of the world which were won over to Olympism and they are willing to accept the healthy competition. Blue stands for Europe, Black for Africa, Red for the Americas, Yellow for Asia and, Green for Oceania. How cool is that? As you can see in the picture below they are all linked together to show that we all stand together as one.

As much turmoil, chaos, and tragedy that America has gone through, I believe this will be a great positive for us. In this moment, we will all be able to stand together as one, knowing we have so many diverse sporting teams out in Rio fighting for the gold and to represent our country. Also, a mass majority of the media will be so busy reporting this, that we will no longer have to turn on our TVs to violence and corruption for a while. Another plus is that the Olympics shows so many sports that there has got to be at least one sport that someone likes to watch. I didn't even know speed-walking was a sport! Either way, families can sit down after work and/or school and watch this international event and not worry about the negatives in the world. Just for a little while.

The Olympics has a wonderful opening celebration that celebrates all the countries that have come to participate and every time someone wins gold from our country, you get to hear the Star Spangled Banner. How awesome is that? It may get old to some of you guys, but at the end of the day, you have to realize that this is our country. America is not perfect and neither is any other country. If you want to change, the only way you can get it is if you fight for it, but as we can see, that's all that we have been trying to do. So, America, let's take a break. Let's pop some popcorn, order some pizza, and watch the Olympics. Watch how this event can help create a little peace among us. Watch how our countries stand hand-in-hand in peace. Watch our country grow strong after this.

"Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light. What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight, O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave, O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
