It's May and the end of a long semester for college kids everywhere. Finals are over and grades are posted. Dorm rooms are empty and quiet. Students are headed home for the summer, equal parts sad to leave and overjoyed to sleep and eat mom's cooking again. The end of the semester brings a whole lot of packing and, if you're like me, a little bit of road-tripping. The 12-hour drive from campus to home (or my first home because by now college feels like home too) is one I know too well. Since I started college two years ago, I've made this drive six times. While always accompanied by my trusty road trip comrade (otherwise known as my dad), this drive never fails to make me think about life a little. For a quick snapshot into my head, I've put together a list below of a few of those thoughts:
1. Did I pack everything?
2. Of course, I packed everything, there's nothing left in my room.
3. Do I really have this much stuff?
4. Why do I have this much stuff?
5. Man, I'm tired.
6. Of course you're tired, you've gotten a sum total of 10 hours of sleep over the last week.
7. Why didn't I bring more snacks?
8. Why did I pack all my pillows away instead of keeping one up front for napping?
9. I wish I knew all the radio stations everywhere so I could listen to music right now
10. Oh that was the answer I didn't know on my last final
11. I can't believe I'm not coming back to school for 3 and 1/2 months
12. I wish I had more time to hang out with my friends before we all left
13. I'm kind of going to miss that little dorm room home of mine
14. But I definitely won't miss the dining hall
15. I never knew there were so many small towns in America
16. When's lunch?
17. I'm cold/hot and constantly need to change the AC
18. I'm excited to sleep in my own bed again
19. But I'm going to miss my friends and school like crazy
20. I can't wait for next year already.
