The time after late adolescence and before full on adulthood is confusing–but that doesn't mean that you haven't learned a thing or two. As I exit my teens and face another rotation around the sun, I got to thinking about things I wish I had mastered before entering my third decade of life. Will I master them by the time I'm 30? Who knows. Does it make 20 any less great? Not at all.
1. Learning how to dress professionally
2. Mastering the "no-makeup" makeup look
3. Balancing my social life
4. Finding the perfect red lip
5. Mastering self care
6. Knowing people's true intentions
7. Healthy sleeping habits
8. Walking in heels
9. Successfully making plans
10. Taking useful class notes
11. Calling my family enough
12. Keeping up with earrings
13. A successful skincare routine
14. Not falling too hard for people
15. Not wasting my time on the internet
16. Drinking enough water
17. Learning not to take things personally
18. Not letting social media consume me
19. Spending enough time in nature
20. Remembering that I'm young and need to enjoy it
Some may say the birthday before a wild 21st celebration is uneventful, but I view it as a time of reflection as I've spent two decades on this planet. Happy birthday to me, and cheers to everything I've accomplished and everything that I will.
