20 Things I've Never Thanked My Grandmother For
Kelsey Hall

As a little girl, I always loved going over to my grandmother’s house because I always felt so warm and cozy there. Over the years of spending my summers with her, she taught me so much that I never got the chance to thank her for. Mom always had a heart of gold and she was such an inspirational part of my life. I’m just sorry I didn’t realize it until she was gone.

1. Thank you for always knowing exactly what to say.

2. Thank you for giving the best hugs.

3. Thank you for teaching me how to make pancakes.

4. Thank you for Pink baby, I will have her forever.

5. Thank you for always making me feel loved.

6. Thank you for letting me leave my bright green gum under your kitchen table.

7. Thank you for always putting a smile on my face.

8. Thank you for teaching me how to play pretty much every card game that ever existed.

9. Thank you for making me feel loved, always.

10. Thank you for all the bed time stories.

11. Thank you for showing me how to be brave and strong like you...

12. But also teaching me how to be sensitive and caring.

13. Thank you for having faith in me, even when I had none in myself.

14. Thank you for letting me swim in my underwear when I didn't bring my bathing suit.

15. Thank you for all of your wise advice.

16. Thank you for accepting me and all of my weirdness.

17. Thank you for always standing up for me when I didn't have the strength to stand up for myself.

18. Thank you for singing all of your silly songs.

19. Thank you for showing me what it is to truly love someone. I hope that one day, I will love someone as much as you loved Pop.

20. Thank you for passing down your creative mind and spirit to me. I promise I won't ever let it go to waste..

Mom, I can’t even begin to describe the impact that you had on my life; these 20 things have only scratched the surface of everything that you have taught and given me. Those summers with you by the pool, playing card games, and hearing all of your stories are some of my most cherished memories and I will carry them, along with your memory with me forever. I love you so much, and I hope that I am making you proud. Thanks for the rainbow, Grandmother bear.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
