20 Things Jewish Girls Love And Understand

Being Jewish is not only a religion, it’s a heritage. Finding out your friend is Jewish is the best feeling, because you instantly know how many things you will have in common. While teenage, Jewish girls are often subject to many stereotypes, there is much more to being Jewish. So, I've compiled a list of 20 things Jewish girls love and understand.

1. Bagels

You’re not a true Jewish girl unless you have craved a bagel with lox and cream cheese at least once in your lifetime.

2. NJBs

When all your parents want you to do is marry a nice jewish boy. Did I mention Adam Sandler, Adam Levine and Drake are all jewish?

3. Matzah Pizza

When not eating pizza during Passover becomes so difficult you have to improvise.

4. Jewish Geography

When you meet someone for the first time, and find out you have 15 mutual Facebook friends and that they know your mom's best friend's aunt. Why? Jewish geography.

5. JAPs

JAP= Jewish American Princess. You probably went to school with them, and have been friends with them. If not, chances are, you are one. The stereotype can be rude and insulting, but sometimes very true.

6. Summer Camp

You’ve been to summer camp and/or sleep away camp. You’ve probably had your “camp friends” and your “school friends,” and almost always, your camp friends knew or had connections with your school friends.

7. Everything Bat Mitzvah Related

Despite your braces and awkwardness in middle school, you peaked in the 7th grade purely because of your bat mitzvah. Those days were your glory days, considering all of your friends and family circled around you, and sang to you as you were lifted up and down in a chair.

8. Hummus

Craving a midnight snack? Hummus and pita chips, or flat pretzels is the way to go. Always.

9. Hanukkah

You’re lying if you didn’t enjoy bragging to your non-jewish friends about getting gifts for eight days straight. Oh, and you can’t forget about the latkes and of course, dreidel.

10. Sushi

Sushi. Sushi. Sushi. Need I say more?

11. Matzo ball soup

You don’t know why you like it so much, but you just do.

12. Finding the afikomen

If you found the afikomen during Passover it was your greatest achievement to date.

13. Owning a turquoise Hamsa necklace, or a Star of David necklace

You just can't be a true jewish girl without having, or wanting either one of these necklaces.

14. Getting keratin, or a Brazilian Blowout

Because your friends with straight hair just didn’t understand why you would pay all that money to have hair like their's. They just don’t get it, you were born with it.

15. "You look Jewish"

Hearing people tell you this and not understanding how someone can “look” a religion. And then you remember the “jewish nose” stereotype, and the stereotype that all Jewish girls have brown, curly, hair, and brown eyes. Okay, maybe you can look Jewish.

16. Chinese Food on Christmas

When Christmas is one of your favorite holidays purely because you know you will be eating Chinese food or pizza at some point during the day.

17. Challah

Most of your non-jewish friends don’t know what challah is, and you truly don’t understand how they have gone their whole lives without eating challah.

18. Birthright

You’ve either had friends or family who have gone, have gone yourself, or are planning to go in the future. Your non-jewish friends are jealous when you tell them just because you’re jewish you get to go on a $200 trip to a foreign country.

19. Groggers

All you want to do to the person you hate is spin a grogger at their ear for eternity. Yes, groggers are that annoying.

20. Dealing with Jewish stereotypes

We hate to love them, and love to hate them. But, we just gotta live with them. Because being Jewish is more than just a religion, it's a heritage and I am proud to say that I am Jewish.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
