20 Simple Ways To Make Someone's Day

You may have heard of a little thing called "paying it forward," you may have even experienced the pleasure of being on the receiving end of the movement, but who says that you can't be the start of it? All it takes is a random act of kindness, no matter how big or how small. Here I have created a list of just some of the ways you can make someone else's day! I challenge you to try some out.

1. Look someone (or multiple someones) in the eye and smile.

Instead of staring at your phone or looking at the ground, greet the people you pass by!

2. Genuinely compliment someone.

You think that dude's shirt is rad? Tell him! You love that girl's hair? Let her know!

3. Pay for the car behind you in the drive-thru.

Not the most original, I know, BUT it really can makes someone's morning brighter! Plus, it probably won't even hurt your wallet that much. It's fast food!

4. Leave someone a short and sweet note.

Letting someone know you thought of them is a for sure way to put a smile on their face!

5. Better yet, give someone a handwritten card or letter.

The fact that you took some time to write down a message makes it that much more special and also easier to keep forever!

6. Offer to help someone.

Your friend doesn't know how to do something that you rock at? Teach them! Your brother can't decide where to take the new girl he's dating? Give him some suggestions!

7. Randomly tell someone you don't usually talk to to have a great day.

Whether it be a classmate or the stranger who holds a door open for you, everyone appreciates kind words!

8. Positively respond to a negative social media post.

If you come across someone's tweet and they're down and out, send them some good vibes! It might just turn their frown upside down.

9. Let someone in your life know that you appreciate them.

Most of us don't do this often enough, and it is always nice to hear that you're appreciated by others.

10. Help someone study (for free).

If someone in your class isn't catching on, offer to meet up in the library! Take some weight off their shoulders by getting them up to speed.

11. Bake someone a treat (or buy them their favorite candy if you can't bake).

Everyone likes a sweet every once in a while! Simple as that.

12. Give someone a call.

It's been a while since you did that, right? Whether it's to check on them or catch up, phone calls are much more personal than texting and are bound to make the person on the other end of the phone smile.

13. Let someone go ahead of you while driving.

I know we all like getting where we are going in a timely manner, but if you can during your commute, stop to allow another car to go before you. You never know, it may save them from being late to a very important date!

14. If you see someone drop something, help them pick it up.

Chivalry, ah, let's keep it alive. Do a little "bend and snap," as Elle Woods would say, to help someone through their day!

15. Support someone in a project or hobby.

If someone you know is in choir or theater, go watch them perform! If you have a friend who plays for a sports team, make them a sign for their next game! Encouragement is awesome.

16. Burn someone a CD of songs you think they'd enjoy.

Everyone loves music! And how easy is it to burn a CD of a few songs?

17. Post a cute or funny video on someone's wall.

Puppies, little kids, kittens, minions — whatever you think might make that person laugh or smile!

18. Give your waiter or waitress a larger than normal tip or a sweet note (with a regular tip).

The people who wait on you are humans, too, and they appreciate kindness just as much (if not more) than the next person!

19. Push the shopping cart back for someone.

If you see someone heading out of a store while you are heading in, then offer to take the cart off their hands once they're done unloading! You're probably going to need a cart anyway.

20. Share something you love with someone.

Whether it be your midday snack or your Netflix account, sharing is caring.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
