It’s the most wonderful (and stressful) time of the year! I’m not talking about the school year about to wrap up; I’m talking about the Stanley Cup Playoffs — the time of year when you find yourself indulging in the most irrational superstitions you can possibly think of in hopes it can help your team win. It's basically the regular season on acid and steroids at the same time.
One of the top contributors to helping the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup last year was Brandon Saad. Only a few weeks after hoisting the Cup above his head for the second time in his NHL career, he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Although Chicago had another successful season, many fans could not help but miss Saad. Although Saad had his most successful season, leading in goals in Columbus with 30, and 15th overall in the NHL, Columbus is not going through to the playoffs. In honor of my favorite departed player, I have compiled a list of 20 reasons why Saad is missed in Chicago.
1. His hypnotizing blue eyes every girl couldn't help but drown in.
2. With a smile to match.
3. His hilarious bromance with Andrew Shaw.
4. Who even got in on the fun.
5. The best playoff beard (and second best mullet, gotta hand it to Kaner) ever.
6. The look of pure joy on his face when he scored a goal.
7. And how he was just as happy when another teammate scored a goal.
8. How he pretty much never stopped smiling (and we loved every second of it).
9. How he made fun of his teammates while still coming across as the sweetest guy ever.
10. How he basically epitomizes the American dream.
11. How much he loved his teammates and playing in Chicago.
12. How he genuinely didn't want to leave Chicago.
13. All of the name puns. Every. Single. One.
14. How he just went along with everything
15. How he is still friends with his old teammate.
16. How much he loved the fans.
17. His sense of humor.
18. How in his three years as a Blackhawk, he managed to help bring in two Stanley Cups.
19. His dedication and focus to the sport.
20. And most of all, his incredible talent on the ice.
Once a Blackhawk, always a Blackhawk.
