2 Months More
Start writing a post

This New Year's Eve is going to be a little different than years past. We aren't just counting down the seconds until a new year starts but a whole new decade. For some of us, we were pretty young the last time this happened and didn't understand just how monumental it can be. Now, you're probably wondering why I'm talking about this in October, but I have my reasons, I promise.

So many people get to the last couple months of the year, and they hit a slump. Whether it be all the classes, tests, and projects circling them like hungry sharks. Or it's the colder weather setting a chill into your bones and into your soul. Maybe once Halloween grows near, people compartmentalize all 3 of the holidays into one box and just accept that the end of the year is upon us. However, it doesn't have to be that way.

People don't have to put off their goals until the new year starts. That's just a fancy way of procrastinating by claiming you'll make it your resolution. We all know how long those last. Putting off making a change for two whole months just negates the importance of it in the first place. If right now, on October 30th, you are considering making a change in your life, do it! Don't wait for even a second.

You may be thinking "why is this girl reprimanding me about my life?" and "should I have some big goal right now?". Great questions, I'm glad you asked.

Life is about growth. Both, physically sprouting to however many inches tall and mentally becoming a better, more complex version of you at every season. We can't let ourselves get trapped in a one dimensional life; a cage that will keep us from flying. Take that goal, that passion, whatever you're crazy about and make it happen now... not in two months.

Whatever it may be, just do it (as Shia LaBeouf once said). That colossal risk that you've been too afraid to take, whether it be applying for a job, telling someone how you feel about them, starting a new hobby, going skydiving for crying out loud. Maybe its's not some big declaration or step but just something minuscule that you want to change. Speaking up more in class, taking the stairs more, cleaning your room. I repeat, clean your room! It always makes you feel better.

Each day should be like January 1st, where the possibilities are endless, and you are actually motivated to chase that better life. While you are finally doing this and looking ahead to the future, also reflect on your past. We are almost done with the 10th month of the year- freaky stuff, right? Be proud of how far you've come and all the trials and tribulations you've conquered in 2019.

Some of us faced some scary, life-changing things this year. I know I sure did. Deciding where I wanted to go to college, graduating from high school, leaving the life and places I knew best behind, starting college- definitely all big girl steps. It doesn't have to be December 31st for you to be able to look back on the past year. As long as you don't let the past weigh you down, feel free to hype yourself up a bit on all you've achieved, no matter how small and insignificant those little successes may seem.

It's time to make some money moves and start improving our lives today. It might be really scary, terrifying even, but it will most definitely be rewarding in some way. Why make a new year's resolution that you will just give up on, when you can smash some monster goals right now. Tell yourself that before the end of the year, you will do this and you will do that, and if you don't, that's okay, because you still have tomorrow. You have a whole two months left of tomorrows and after the clock strikes midnight and it's 2020, you have another whole year of tomorrows too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
