Believe me, I love being an adult. I love doing what I want, when I want. No one tells me repeatedly to do my homework. If I want to eat McDonald's french fries until I throw up, I will. I enjoy watching TV at 4 a.m., but my childhood definitely had some perks. I was blessed with so many amazing memories of my childhood. I was also blessed with fantastic, ambitious parents. Here are nineteen of the things that I miss the most from my childhood.
1. Outfits
Ponytail? Check. Light wash denim jeans? Check. Sparkly tie belt? Check. Bedazzled sneakers? Check.
2. Never having to plan meals
Let's face it. Mom always made the best food, and she tailored her meals to your wants.
3. Watching cartoons on Saturday mornings
Nowadays, Saturdays are the days that I sleep until noon.
4. Easy-Bake ovens
I'm pretty sure my mom despised the rainy days when I would suddenly decide I needed to bake a brownie.
5. Being driven everywhere
Gone are the days of sitting in the backseat while people chauffeur me around town.
6. Play-Doh
It got everywhere. Especially in the grout in the kitchen floor.
7. Picking flowers from beside our lamp post in the front yard
Ever since we moved, I have missed bringing tulips into the house and searching frantically for a vase to put them in.
8. Half days
School half days were the best days ever. Half days meant that teachers didn't have enough time to actually teach or give tests.
9. Trips to Disney World
Meeting all of my favorite characters was such a momentous part of my childhood. Plus, not to mention all the costumes that everyone bought me because I totally didn't have enough already.
10. Naps
Why do pre-schoolers have an allotted time for naps? I'm pretty sure college kids need this way more.
11. Polly Pockets, Littlest Pet Shop, and Barbies
Entertainment for hours.
12. Not having to carry a purse
Purses these days are either so tiny that your phone doesn't even fit, or they're so big that they knock over every shelf of lotion in an aisle.
13. Going to my grandma and grandpa's house
Grandmas are meant to spoil us, right? I had amazing grandparents who loved and protected me with everything they had.
14. Making coffee with Dad in the morning
Every morning when I was really little, I would get up, go to the bathroom with my blanket and lay on the heated register while my dad shaved. Then we would go downstairs, and I helped him make coffee.
15. Premium Handi-Sticks
If my mom had allowed me, I would have lived off that cheese dip.
16. Sleepovers on the weekends
As a 5th grader, I had the best gossip out of all of my friends.
17. Jelly shoes
These suckers were never comfortable, but boy, they sure were stylish back then...Or at least I told myself they were.
18. Movie nights with Mom
I continued this tradition right up until I moved out at the end of my first semester at college. Popcorn and movies were part of our special bonding time late at night.
19. Never wearing makeup
As soon as girls hit the preteen years, they begin an obsession with makeup. On the days that I don't wear makeup, I feel like I've forgotten something incredibly important the entire day.
I wish I could go back and relive all of my favorite moments in my life. I wouldn't change anything. I just want to experience it all again. I'm blessed to have people who help me create so many wonderful memories.
