Turning 19 probably isn't the most exciting age but, you've made it through a year of adulthood. So although I may be turning 19 soon which is pretty much no different than 18, here's 19 things I learned that I believe everyone should also know before they turn 19.

1. Spend as much time with your family as you can

College hits hard and now you're barely home. You won't have nearly as much time with your family as you did before college. So spend your newfound time wisely.

2. Save, save, save

Money, especially at this age, is tight. Make a budget. Your future self will thank you.

3. People will hurt you

People are going to hurt and disappoint you throughout your whole entire life. There's no way to get around it. But, if someone is strong enough to bring you down, you are strong enough to get back up.

4. A couple of close friends are better than a having a lot of friends

Trust me. Those couple of great friends will always have your back. They will always make sure that you're doing okay even if you don't see them every day. I'd rather have that than a big group you see daily who don't care about your well-being at all.

5. You will find out who your real friends are

High school has ended and now is the time you realize which friends will stick with you throughout your life and not just in your glory days.

6. Love yourself first

If you love yourself first, everything starts falling into place. You will know what you deserve and the less nonsense you'll tolerate.

7. You will have many heartbreaks

If you're anyone who is anyone, you have/will l experience a heartbreak. It may feel like the end of the world, it may take time, but I promise that after the rain, there is always a rainbow.

8. It's totally okay to say no to a night of going out

Sometimes staying in and binge-watching Netflix and eating a ton of junk food on a Friday night is much better than a night of going out. Treat yourself.

9. Change isn't easy

No matter what, being an adult is hard. You're learning to be on your own and make decisions for yourself. Just don't give up, no matter how hard it gets. Everyone will experience it. It's a journey you don't want to stray from.

10. Make the first move

You don't always have to wait for the boy you're crushing on to make the first move. Making the first move shows confidence, and in all honesty, he'll most likely like you back if you tell him.

11. Everyone is suffering

Everyone is always dealing with something in their life, big or small. Be kind.

12. Don't settle for just anyone

If you have to change or be different for the person you're with, they are not your person. Understand your worth, someone will fall in love with it someday.

13. Go to your last high school football game and join extracurricular activities

You will miss them. And you will surely gain some unforgettable friends and memories.

14. Sleep is so important

Don't wait until last minute at 1 in the morning to finish that paper you have due tomorrow. You have time if you don't procrastinate. Give your body the rest it deserves.

15. Don't stress over small things

You'll most likely forget about it within a few hours or days. Just breathe.

16. If you need help, ask for it

It could be help with school or just asking for advice, but it could also be help with more serious issues. Sometimes asking for help can be one of the bravest moves you can make.

17. Life is too short not to get that tattoo or that expensive shirt you wanted

If it means something to you, why not? Sometimes we have to learn to be good and spoil ourselves sometimes. We all deserve it.

18. Don't apologize for how you feel

No one can control how they feel. Don't be afraid to say how you feel.

19. Never be afraid of being who you are

Some people won't like you, and that's totally okay. Everyone is unique in their own way. I am who I am and you are who you are. We don't have to change for anybody. Take us as who we are or watch us go and that's who we'll ever be.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
