19 Singing Auditions You Have to See (and Hear) to Believe

Unlike most people who watch shows like The Voice or The X Factor to see a contestant rise to the top and come out as the winner, I watch for one reason: auditions. I've spent hours watching YouTube videos of the best and worst auditions worldwide from just about every singing show you can think of. I love watching auditions because it's the one chance a contestant has to blow the judges away and create a great first impression and because of that, some of the auditions are nearly perfect.

Here are my top 19 auditions, in no particular order (except Mary Guilbeaux at #1), that I always end up coming back to over and over again.

1. Mary Roach (aka Mary Guilbeaux)

Okay I'm sorry but I had to put Mary Guilbeaux in here...so many words I could say, yet I think she really speaks for herself. Please watch this. If only one video survives into the next century, I really hope it's this one.

2. Carly Rose Sonenclar

Without a doubt, this is probably my favorite audition of any I've seen so far. For a 13-year-old, she physically should not have that powerful of a voice, yet there she is anyway. I think I have a tendency to root for those who the judges are so quick to...well, judge, and mentally write off. From the moment she started singing, I knew they were internally slapping themselves on the back for so wrongly assuming she couldn't handle the song.

3. Leah McFall

Leah's style of singing and her voice is so original and quirky, I've watched this audition an innumerable amount of times and I'm still not tired of it.

4. Calum Scott

Singing the way he did after watching his sister fail to make it through can only be described as heartbreakingly difficult. Yet somehow, he managed to sing like THAT. Props to him, and for the record, I think his sister should have made it through as well.

5. Michael Collings

This has always been one of my favorite auditions because of the pure shock on the judges' faces after hearing the first few words out of his mouth. I was rooting for him so hard, especially after they made rude comments about his clothes, and I'm glad his amazing voice put them in their places.

6. Rachael Thompson

The talent that these young people have never ceases to amaze me. I love Gabrielle Aplin and Rachael definitely did her song justice, and then some.

7. Sawyer Fredericks

3 judges turned around in the first 10 seconds...and for good reason. I had my mouth open throughout the entire song. I really hope he goes far because if he released that song today, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

8. Willie Jones

I crack up so hard at this every time. From the faces of the judges and audience and especially after Demi's "Fresh Prince" comment, you can tell that this was probably the last song they expected him to sing. However, Willie sang it really well and his smile is so infectious, I think we were all definitely pulling for him.

9. Monica Michael

I was praying so hard that she was going to be good and after listening, I am so happy that she met and even exceeded my expectations. I'm not going to lie-I cried during this audition. I love her voice and the emotion she puts into her lyrics, and I really hope it takes her far.

10. Vince Kidd

I have no words. Oh except one. Perfection.

11. David Faulkner

That voice...and he can dance? I see zero flaws.

12. Bill Downs

Bill has such a sweet voice and it's so sad that he lost out to Max Milner in the Battle round because their performance actually sounded like a solid duet instead of a duel. If you want to watch their amazing rendition of Beggin' by Madcon, click here. (I promise, it's worth it).

13. Jaymie Deboucherville

At first, I wasn't sure if I liked this version of Wonderwall but the more he sang, the more goosebumps I got and by the end, I wanted to give him a standing ovation too.

14. Josh Daniel

Basically, if you make Simon Cowell cry, you know you're doing something right. One of my favorites.

15. Josh Brookes

His voice melts me. That is all. Why are you still reading this? You have a video to watch!

16. Jai Waetford

I cannot fathom how a 14-year-old can sing and write lyrics like that...I just can't do it. His voice is so nice and soothing and I know puberty is probably going to ruin it but right now...it is glorious.

17. Sydnee Carter

In her story, she said that she was bullied at school...all I can say is that I hope those mean girls are eating their words right now. I bet they wished they would've been nicer to her because her voice is out of this world.

18. Janet Devlin

Janet has always been my favorite little peanut. I love how she is so shy but then once she's comfortable, this amazing voice comes out. I hope she's doing great things out there because I just have a feeling that she deserves it.

19. Rachel Potter

No words can describe this so please do me a favor and watch this while basking in the glory of her perfection.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
