19 Questions I need Answered Before I Turn 19

The past 18 years have been rough.

I've learned a lot in 18 years, but there are still some things that I need to be cleared up.

1. What’s life like after school?

Does it get any better? Because honestly, I feel like I will never be done!

2. Is it really as hard as everyone makes it seem to get a job without a college degree?

I hear about this a lot and it terrifies me.

3. Why are we still slut shaming?

Seriously?!?!

4. How do you file taxes?

5. How do you paint your right-hand nails?

I'm right-handed and still cannot paint my right hand...

6. Will I ever get better time management?

This is a growing problem that needs to get under control.

7. Am I going to be stuck doing something I don’t want to do for the rest of my life?

8. Will people ever stop comparing themselves to others?

9. Will my self-esteem increase?

10. Does being an adult get easier?

I feel like I am forever stressed and that it is never going to end.

11. Why are people still not telling each other how they feel?

Communication is not that hard y'all.

12. Will I ever use geometry in the real world?

13. Will I ever stop stressing over the little things?

14. Do people actually go on dates anymore?

Almost 19 years old and I've even been in long-term relationships, but yet I've never really been on a formal date before!

15. What are the limits of being "petty"?

I feel this should be something that is defined, because some people just take it too far.

16. Why do I keep putting effort into people that don’t appreciate me?

17. Why does guac cost extra??

Seriously come on. I'm already paying extra for chips, why do I have to pay extra for guac too?!

18. Will I ever be able to function again without coffee?

19. Will I ever develop enough self-control to stop binge watching Netflix?

These are just some of the questions that are on my mind right now. I'm sure there will be dozens more that will arise before I hit adulthood. But for now, can anyone help me out with these?!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
