18 Ways To Cure Boredom
The Office Bored

As we go into July, a lot of people, including myself go into a summer slump. Whether that means sleeping in way too late every morning, having the same work or school routine every day, or aimlessly wandering around the house, sometimes you can’t help that your exciting summer goes through a dull patch. So here is a list of creative solutions to fix this issue and add some new random excitement to your summer.

1. Tie dye shirts.

Tie Dye shirts are coming back into style and this is a fun, cheap trend you can DIY.

2. Build a bird house.

Throw it back to summer camp by making useless crafts that your mom will ultimately throw away a few weeks later.

3. Draw with sidewalk chalk on things other than the sidewalk.

It’s called repurposing… I think.

4. Pet animals at your local shelter.

Warning: you may have the urge to adopt a new pet, or six.

5. Read all the boxes of cereal in your pantry.

There are a lot of great word searches and facts on those things.

6. Rearrange all the furniture in your house.

To make it more fun, don’t tell any of your roommates about this plans.

7. Teach your cat a new trick.

Cats don’t do tricks, so you should actually probably try this out with a different pet like a hamster or a rock.

8. Look up your ancestor tree.

You’ve been telling people you are half German, a quarter Russian, a fourth Korean, 1/16 Cherokee, and 3/16 Peruvian so it’s time to find out if you’ve been telling the truth.

9. Watch a history documentary.

They might seem really boring… and they are, but hey it’s a good way to help you fall asleep.

10. Learn to play the harmonica.

Who knows you might need to whip out a piano man harmonica solo.

11. Become a croquet master.

There might be a croquet scholarship on the rise, so be prepared.

12. Tape a unicorn horn on any and every horse you can find.

Make the world a little more magical.

13. Try a new face mask.

The only thing better than wearing a blue mask and looking like a monster is the fact it also clears up your skin.

14. Pimp out a bicycle.

No one said it has to be your bicycle.

15. See how long you can hold your breathe.

This is a super useful skill when trying to not drown, avoid breathing in toxic gases, or if you are a sports commentator at soccer game and have to yell GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

16. Learn how to scuba.

Are you land locked or can’t make it out to a body of water? Practice in your bath tub.

17. Online shop.

Adding random items you don’t really need to your electronic cart is so satisfying.

18. Binge watch a show on Netflix.

This is always a really solid cure to boredom. Bonus fact: Netflix just added a bunch of new shows and added new episodes to exist shows.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
