Writer’s block is something that we all experience at one point or another, here are some ways I tried to combat mine:
1. Watch Netflix.
Maybe watching some shows will give you inspiration? Right? Is that how it works or is that just something I’ve tried to convince myself?
2. Start Googling ideas.
Google: the first place we turn to when we need help with anything in this generation.
3. Go shopping.
I can’t really come up with a way to justify this other than it could help clear your mind and allow the creativity to flow again.
4. Ask your friends.
Friends: the second place we turn to when we need help with anything in this generation.
5. Take a break.
You’ve been working hard, take a break and let your mind relax before you try to think of an idea again.
6. Go for a walk.
Supposedly going for a walk clears your mind and helps you think more creatively, so this should also help you come up with ideas for an article.
7. Listen to music.
See #1 for the reasoning behind this one; it is just another thing I have been trying to convince myself will help me become more productive.
8. Watch Netflix.
Let’s be honest, throughout this entire process all you could think about is the cliff hanger that you were left on during the ending of your last Netflix episode. Maybe going back and watching the next episode, or four, will help you focus on other things, like your article idea.
9. Play with some animals.
Maybe communication with another species, preferably dogs, would help you to come up with an idea?
10.Read a book.
Maybe looking at words on a page will help you think of a way to fill the empty document on your computer screen.
11. Ask your friends… again.
This time ask them in a much more begging tone, maybe they’ll take you seriously the second time around.
12. Ask your parents.
This is a risky step, it runs the risk of the questions “You write for what? What’s an ‘Odyssey’? Are those what your weekly Facebook links are for?” and should only be taken in desperate times.
13. Start a new Netflix show.
You probably finished the show that you were watching while you were looking for “inspiration,” so might as well start another show while you’re struggling.
14.Take a nap.
Maybe you’re just tired? Maybe an article idea will come to you in a dream? Maybe I just like napping?
15. Go eat.
Blame your lack of creativity on the emptiness of your stomach and hope to come back well fed and with hopefully some ideas for an article.
16. Read other people’s articles.
While they most likely won’t come out and tell you what you should write, maybe there is a way that you can become sparked with creativity off the words of others.
17. Organize your desk or room.
Maybe all the clutter in your room is the reason you can’t think straight, and even if it doesn’t help you come up with an idea, it is always nice to have a clean work space.
18. Give up.
Time's running out and maybe you should just write about all the struggles you endured in this process and just try again next week.
