Here's to letting 2018 be one great year. However, it all has to start with a great, positive mindset, so hopefully these ideas for your New Year's resolutions help you start the year out right.

1. Learn how to be thankful for the past.

Even though most of us want to forget 2017, the past does help us become stronger.

2. Take more risks.

Carpe diem.

3. Surround yourself with positive vibes and positive people.

4. Stop comparing yourself to others.

5. Fall in love with yourself over and over again.

6. Stop putting others first instead of concentrating on you and your well being.

It's okay to put yourself first even if others disagree.

7. Have better appreciation for the little things.

8. Do not be afraid to speak up.

Talk to that guy/girl you have a crush on. Share that idea. Express your emotions. Make sure your voice is heard loud and clear. Ask for what you want.

9. Take time to treat yourself.

Whether it is through retail therapy or a simple bubble bath, take some time to detox from the stress of life this upcoming year. You work hard and deserve it.

10. Celebrate the small and big victories.

11. Show those around you how much you appreciate them.

12. Be okay with saying "no" more.

13. Learn to embrace all of your emotions.

14. Search for what makes you happy and incorporate it into your life.

15. Discover what love means to you and what you need from a partner.

As my mother says, "Sating is like trying all the ice cream flavors in an ice cream shoppe. You never know which one is your favorite until you try them all."

16. Spend less time on social media and start living.

Sure, the internet it a great thing. However, I feel, as a society, we have become too attached to our phones and social media instead of living in the moment. We're all fixated on trying to get the best Instagram picture or best tweet in hopes of becoming famous. None of that should matter when you're spending time with friends and family.

17. Keep counting your blessings.

18. Take good care of your body and soul.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
