17 Things To Do If You Are Bored Over Winter Break

How can we get through the (what seems) longest month of the year?

This is the time of year that seems to drag on for what it feels like forever. Some of us are working or traveling, maybe even taking winter classes. Then there is those of us who sit around and don't really do anything for break, except sleep to pass the time, and pretty much wait to go back to school.

For the times where you feel like you have run out of things to do with your break, here are a few ideas of what to do to fill the time you would have being bored.

1. Go to the mall

Indulge on something nice with the little Christmas money you have.

2. Go on a road trip with your friends

You have a month off, would you rather sit around your house, or see the world?

3. Reconnect with old friends

See your friends from high school that you haven’t talked to in years. Pay your old high school bestie a visit. You’ll have loads to talk about from your time apart.

4. Sledding

No one is too old for sledding.

5. Start a project

Buy some canvases and start some painting. Grab something and start creating!

6. Read books

Since you have been reading boring old books and textbooks all semester, why not dive into something that actually is good and enjoyable to read.

7. Clean out your room

No one wants to do this dreaded chore, but it’s always nice to clean everything out and have some sort of a ‘fresh start’.

8. Go out to eat

You are on winter break, treat yourself!

9. Explore your area

Take a drive around your county, you are bound to find something that is worth getting out of the car for.

10. Have a winter photoshoot

Snow pictures are always a must for a strong Instagram feed…and if your profile picture is a little outdated.

11. Binge Netflix

This is the perfect time of the year to do it, all wrapped up warm and cozy in your bed, with nowhere to go in the morning but sleeping in!

12. Get a pedicure/manicure

Who doesn’t like getting their feet and hands massaged, and nicely groomed? Even though it’s the winter, you still have to take care of them.

13. Cook something new

Try a new recipe you have been meaning to try, bake a million cupcakes, make BBQ ribs, cook some random mix thing that you think will taste good. It’s a good time to try new things.

14. Drink hot chocolate

Drink lots and lots of it.

15. Skiing/Snowboarding

At least in the upper Midwest, there are quite a few ski hills. If you can’t make it out to the Rocky Mountains over break, or you just want to learn, find a ski hill near you and go tear it up.

16. Go laser tagging

When it’s cold as f*** outside laser tagging is a great way to warm up, and work out.

17. Go to the movies

Curling up in the movie theatre chair with a bucket of buttery popcorn and a gallon of soda sounds like heaven on a cold winter’s day.

Before you know it break will be over and the crazy spring semester will be upon us. Take advantage of this time to relax and enjoy yourself!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
