Silsbee High School was founded in the early 1900s, and has seen many classes walk across the stage and receive their high school diplomas. Though the school's address has changed a few times, and times have changed, most Silsbee High School graduates will agree that we are proud of our hometown, and our school. Here are a few things SHS students can probably relate to, according to SHS students past, and present:

Since multiple generations will read this article, you may not be able to relate to everything, but hopefully you can relate to at least a few things!

1. You know what it is like to strongly consider going back home when facing the mountain of a hill at the student parking lot.

So, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit with the picture, but the struggle seemed real at the time.

2. We all had that one elective that we just hung out in.

Whether it was band, agriculture or choir, you know the class I'm referring to.

3. Remember when the school store sold Otis Spunkmeyer cookies?

This was the highlight of our day. Of course, this was before the government decided that cookies were banned from schools.

4. And speaking of food...Crispitos were so worth the 20 min. wait in line.

These were a precious commodity. And yes, we do want cheese on those.

5. Homecoming week was one of the most anticipated weeks of the year.

Oh, and senior girls were kind of expected to have white decorated overalls for the Homecoming pep rally.

6. You may remember what a big deal it was to parade around the gym your senior year at the Homecoming pep rally.

7. The Senior bonfire was a bittersweet time.

8. And, of course, we had to have a Homecoming Parade!

9. If you graduated from Silsbee High School, you may remember the boat races.

10. You probably spent at least a couple of mornings trying to find a spare I.D. to wear from one of your friends...

and the rest of the day was spent hoping the administrators wouldn't notice.

11. You understand how amazing Satsuma is!

Food. So much food.

12. You know that Friday night football is a huge deal.

13. Halftime meant that the Tigerettes would perform another amazing routine.

14. "Eye of the Tiger" was, and always will be, your theme song.

15. And, of course, the band was always awesome.

16. You understand what it means to have great school spirit.

17. And you'll always remember to stay classy.

"You stay classy Silsbee high school!"

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
