17 Struggles Of Eating Healthy In College

College is a constant struggle. Between exams, social life, and classes, eating healthy is the last thing on our minds. We are surrounded by temptation everywhere we go. From dining halls and student centers, the high calorie and sugary snacks are unlimited and at your fingertips with just one swipe. Here are 17 struggles of eating healthy most students undergo while in college:

1. Doing your own food shopping.

Mom isn’t there to refuse to buy the five bags of Reese’s cups in your shopping cart.

2.Always making what’s easy.

Nothing is easier than boiling water and throwing in some high calorie and carb pasta.

3.Because drunk food exists.

Love and hate relationship.

4. Awkward class schedules.

Who said it was okay to have class the only time the dining hall is open?

5. Your roommates tempt you with every unhealthy meal.

How can you say no to dinner at Chipotle and some roomie bonding?

6. Most of us have no idea what food is actually healthy.

7. The need for caffeine.

Thank you, Starbucks, for the Venti Varamel Macchiato with two shots of espresso and the 300 extra calories

8. Because Papa John’s has $1 pizza slices and is cheaper than a salad.

9. Being broke.

No, you don’t have money to buy all fresh veggies, but you do have enough for the XL bag of barbecue chips.

10. Food is comforting.

After crying about the boy from last weekend, and the three exams you failed, carbs and sugar are calling your name.

11. Dining Halls.

Since all the food is close to inedible, Fruity Pebbles it is.

12. Snacking is inevitable, especially when you’re bored.

13. Meals are your decisions.

Since you’re deciding every meal, no one is going to tell you that putting cheese on everything isn’t healthy.

14. Always in a rush.

Having 15 minutes between your class times means you resort to grabbing whatever is easiest.

15. Because you have friends that can eat anything and not gain weight.

16. The fact that takeout is a phone call away and can be delivered to your doorstep.

17. The weekend is four days and yes, you will be drinking on all of them.

You’ll be too hung over to eat fruit for breakfast and will immediately resort to bagels.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
