17 Signs You’re An English Major And A Book Lover

Though you probably already know the signs.

I’ve been a bookworm just about my whole life. In elementary school, I could read a whole “Goosebumps” in one day. I know, pretty impressive, right? I was honestly probably on friendlier terms with the librarian than my own peers. Oddly enough, I didn’t start my college career out as an English major though, which should’ve seemed like a pretty obvious choice given my affinity for reading. Now that I have, though, it has been great to discover fellow book nerds (in the upper-level English classes, anyway). I feel more inclined to own my nerdiness now, so I’ve compiled a short list for my fellow nerds out there.

The signs:

1. Bad grammar irks you

2. You use "big" words

3. You get annoyed when people comment on your use of "big" words

4. You’ve ever used the term “postmodern” to describe anything

5. Probably more than half of your book collection is comprised of books you’ve yet to read

6. You catch up on all your pleasure reading during the summer

7. And maybe sometimes shirk homework during the semester in favor of pleasure reading

8. You’ve wondered at least once if there is a universally comfortable position to read in

9. Going into newly found used bookstores evokes the same excited feeling as, say, Xmas

10. Your idea of a good time is staying in and catching up on your reading, perhaps with a nice candle nearby

11. You have a language-related pet peeve (for example, mine is when people use the phrase “I could care less” to describe something that they don’t care about. It makes no sense and drives me insane when I hear it)

12. You voluntarily read the classics (bonus points if it is a translated work)

13. You might have immense glasses

14. You might have a collection of cardigans

15. You also might carry an aroma of coffee around with you wherever you go

16. You secretly think you have a novel in you that you’ll write one day

17. You get excited when you see which books are assigned for classes

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
