As your classes promptly began at 7 AM Monday morning, it suggests you're one of those brave souls that tackles the early schedule. I quickly learned that those were a mistake. Despite what time your class begins, you'll probably be sprinting down those brick walkways to ensure you aren't late for your first day. It seems that the first day is accompanied with interesting chaos and a wide array of many emotions. Whether you're ecstatically thrilled or overwhelmingly terrified, there's often some typical thoughts you keep to yourself on the first day.

Myself, I am constantly making observations and mumbling under my breath my own personal humor. During the first day, I tend to experience a slew of emotions that ultimately influence my train of thought. I simply like to offer my input because I think I am pretty funny -- if I can make myself laugh, then the first day was a success. Some thoughts are a little sassy, a little annoyed, and a little terrified that adulthood is approaching rapidly. These are often the quirky things that popped into my head while sitting through lectures:

1. "New semester, new me! It's even a new year, so that's a bonus."

Every time the new year pops around, it's like Monopoly and you collect $200 when you pass GO. Yet instead of collecting $200, you're left with resolutions you don't intend to fulfill.

2. "I'm going to be on time to all my classes.

Punctuality is an extremely important skill to acquire, especially now as young adults we'll be entering the workforce. Although, it seems that the universe has works in motion, traffic, chatty people, or hunger, to prevent you from making a timely arrival to class.

3. "Why do they make the snooze button so accessible?"

Anyone who love sleep, like me, needs to invest in one of those alarms that require the complexity of defusing a bomb to stop the obnoxious beeping.

4. "So that sprint to class counts as my daily exercise."

In complete honestly, working out is difficult to commit to especially when it is so simple to let other priorities take precedence. However, with the hectic schedule of school, work, and extracurricular activities you tend to appreciate that you ditched the elevator and walked those three flights of stairs.

5. "I have a friend in this class! Yes, someone to tell all my terrible jokes too."

From the moment I walk into the classroom, I scan the room for potential buddies I can snag a seat next to. If I'm lucky, I can usually find a friend that I torture with my irritating jokes that make myself laugh.

6. "Oh the syllabus, so new and refreshing."

The first day seems pointless in attending as the professor's monotone voice drearily reiterates the syllabus. Cuddling in my comfy blankets and glancing over these documents would be preferred.

7. "Okay, so we can't use our laptops in a technology-driven world? Roger that."

I understand that certain students will typically be caught browsing Facebook or watching entertaining cat videos. However, as matured students, most people recognize the cost of their courses and the importance of paying attention.

8. "No I haven't seen the Welcome Video for the fourth time, please show us."

If I could recite these "Welcome Videos," I honestly could. It's like they're caught on repeat like a broken record.

9. "Well, now reality is setting in..."

Now that the introductions have concluded, teachers dive into their expectations. Certain teachers seem lenient, while others strike fear into your soul.

10. "How many internships did you say I need? Can I cry?"

With graduation rapidly approaching, the stress of being competition ready to shine brighter than other members in the job market is terrifying.

11. "I am graduating soon, I'm not ready... I mean I know everyone else might be, but not me."

As everyone is glancing at how-to photos for decorating their graduation caps, I am wondering what students loans I'd like to pay off first.

12. "Just breathe. Don't freak out, just relax!"

There is this little voice inside your head constantly reminding you to just relax and enjoy the first day. Clearly, anxiety conquered those thoughts.

13. "Yes, more friends in my classes to share the struggle!"

Now that stress has reached an ultimate high, it's comforting knowing that your classmates understand the responsibilities you're all faced with.

14. "What should I eat for lunch later?"

Typical, the clock has rolled around to 12 pm and your thoughts have been completely captured by the sweet aroma of Chick-Fil-A's delicious chicken.

15. "I can't wait to take a nap when I get home, I deserve it."

When you've had an exhausting day at school, a nap is the perfect relaxation -- except when it lasts longer than a few hours.

16. "My thoughts are just everywhere. Am I crazy? Probably."

While this thought range from extremely happy to awkwardly scary, one could easily question their sanity -- myself.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
