I used to hear stories from friends about the struggles of working retail, mostly assured stories about dealing with customers. However, I never fully understood how true those stories were until I started working in retail a little more than a year ago. While there are some struggles about working retail, like most jobs, there are some amazing benefits as well as good times. Working retail has given me a new perspective as well as making me go bankrupt from buying everything in the store. If you work in retail, you know my struggle.
1. That last hour of your shift seems to drag on forever.
2. There is witty little banter you and your coworkers have over the walkie talkies.
3. Listening to said banter and laughing to yourself causes the customers around you to question your sanity.
I swear I'm not crazy, someone just said something funny on the walkie, OK?
4. The struggle of customers coming in five minutes before closing:
Of course we're still open, come on in...
5. Do you work here?
No, I just decided to wear an ear piece attached to a walkie talkie to look cool.
6. When a customer asks you for an "untouched" item from the back:
Do you not know how it was made?
7. Never having any money because you spend your paycheck buying clothes from work:
8. "Wow, you wear a lot of [insert store name here]."
It's almost like I work there or something!
