Dating in this age means something totally different than it used to. Mainly, it means dating apps. If you happen to have and use these apps, I’m sure you’ve come across at least a few of these profile turn-offs.

I know everyone has unique preferences and/or attractions, but there are some aspects of dating profiles that make it impossible for anyone to swipe right. So, if you want some tips of things to watch out for, update your own profile, or just cringe with me: here are 16 dating profile don’ts.

P.S. if you read till the end, there might be some bonus aspects that are applauded and highly encouraged.

1. No bio

… need I say more?

2. “Swipe left if you can’t hold a convo”

Are you expecting me to hold the entire conversation, as in, you’re not capable of doing so yourself? How about you have a more interesting bio then…

3. Shirtless pics

Obviously, you put too much stock into appearances and feel like that is your best feature. Makes me think you have little-to-no personality.

4. 1 picture

This just confuses me. Do you not have access to a camera? Not know how to work one? Is this even you? Regardless, I’m not into it.

5. (Several) Girls in your pictures

To be clear, the pictures you post on there are to get women to like you. So, why do you think that making yourself look unavailable is the best way to show that you’re interested in meeting someone?

6. Several people in every picture

Your profile is about you. The only time it is appropriate to talk about yourself and give yourself an ego boost. Don’t make it confusing by posting only group pictures. I don’t want to have to guess who you are, thanks.

7. Posing in pictures

If it looks like you had a photo shoot for your tinder profile, you either have too much time on your hands or, you are putting a little too much effort into trying to look “desirable.” Either way, not interested.

8. “Just add me on Snapchat” or “follow me on”….

If I haven’t even met you through a message, I don’t want to converse with you on Snapchat. Who knows what you’ll send…Also, not into the idea of using a dating app to increase followers on social media. Seems desperate to me, and I’m on a dating app, so, enough said.

9. Only showing half your face in a picture

Again, why are you making this harder than it needs to be?

10. A ton of emojis

Try to express yourself through your words. Using a bunch of emojis or a majority of them doesn’t scream intelligence.

11. Blurry pictures

This profile is your first impression. Put your best foot forward. And by that, I mean, take a quality picture.

12. Bad lighting in pics

Why is it that you think the dark is your best lighting? Are you trying to hide something?

13. Gym pics

So, you’re proud of your body, good for you. But, is a pic at the gym where you’re obviously flexing, the only way for you to express that?

14. Filtered pictures

The more edited or filtered your pictures are, the less confident you seem. Just try to be yourself. isn’t the endgame to meet someone? Someone you can be honest and comfortable with?

15. “Here for a good time, not a long time”

Maybe you’re into hooking up, but I’m not. But, at least you’re honest about what you want.

16. Biting your lip in your pictures

This is the cringiest thing. Just please don’t do this. Please.

Now, as you've made your way through the depressing parts, here are some aspects of profiles that may increase your chances of a right swipe.

These prove that dating apps aren’t all that bad.

1. Jokes in bio

A sense of humor is a must, so, maybe try out your best, or worst, jokes out in your bio. It can be a conversation starter.

2. Presentations

Along with jokes, a step up even is including a presentation through your pictures or including a kind of resume in your bio. It makes you stand out, and it shows that you can be funny while also being serious.

3. Animals in pictures

A no-brainer that never fails to increase your chances. I’ve definitely liked and messaged a guy based solely on their pet.

4. Interesting and/or unique anthems

This can be kind of hit-or-miss, but don’t be afraid to choose an anthem that you really like. Especially if it isn’t the most popular song of the week.
