Comedy genius Louis C.K. is famous for not having a line that he won't cross. His comedy revolves around making fun of his life and the everyday lives of human beings; however, what I have noticed is that he makes fun of how things are in reality in order to insinuate how things should be. This is the reason why he is the "everyman" of today; his jokes are not just directed towards himself or other specific people, they are directed towards all of us.
These are 15 basic life lessons that Louis C.K.'s standup has taught me.
1. If you are always on your phone, you will miss out on many things in your life. Not everyone needs to know what you are doing all the time.
2. When we say or do something that we know is selfish, unkind, weird or socially unacceptable, we naturally feel bad about ourselves. All you can do is learn from your mistakes and refrain from making them again in the future!
3. Life is too short to be uptight. Yeah, everyone should be mature, but being a kid at heart makes life so much more fun!
4. Don't be a pessimist or even an optimist! Be the opportunist!
5. When in doubt, shut up and listen. No one likes it when you give them the feeling that you like to hear yourself talk, especially when it is about yourself.
6. This one is self-explanatory.
7. Life is so much better when you just don't care what people think about you.
8. Think before you speak or act, and don't draw attention to yourself by telling everyone every stupid thing you've ever done.
9. Knowing that you have a few faults is a good thing! It keeps you from being an arrogant jerk who lets everyone know that you think you are God's gift to the world. It's good to be proud of who you are, but don't be too proud.
10. Get high on life, not on drugs!
11. Even if we disagree on somethings, there is always something else that can bring us together.
12. There is always room for change.
13. It's always important to be responsible!
14. Always tell the truth, and use a toilet for that, not a shower.
15. Everyone should respect everyone's (nonviolent) religious beliefs, even if they are not your own.
16. Be thankful for what you have and don't dwell on what you don't have.
