The time has come for the holiday season to truly begin. As the Thanksgiving season comes to a close, the world suddenly turns to the comforting, colorful lights and flashy holiday decorations. December marks the beginning of this season, so now is absolutely the time to celebrate! The holiday season is about appreciating those that you are surrounded by: family, friends, and peers alike. In order to truly celebrate the season, here is a list of a few things that you can do with your friends!

1. Start a Holiday Count-Down

No matter what you all celebrate, start a countdown until the special days! Maybe even invest in a chocolate calendar for you all to share.

2. Cookie Swap

Every person makes a different type of cookie and you all gather together to exchange!

3. Secret Santa

Or White Elephant, whatever you prefer, but a fun gift exchange is always great.

4. Gingerbread Decorating Competition

Time to bring out your competitive side... See who can make the best and coolest cookie or house.

5. Dorm/Apartment Decorating

Even if you don't decorate a certain space together, spend some time shopping for lights, or even making your own decorations!

6. Card Making / Exchanging

Appreciation can be shown in so many ways, so why not write your friends some cards?

7. Volunteering Together

The holidays are about giving, so take this opportunity to help others in need.

8. Holiday Movie Marathon

There are MILLIONS of holiday movies on every channel now, so make sure you take advantage of this.

9. Baking/Cooking Holiday Creations

Have you ever tried homemade peppermint hot chocolate? No? Well, time to make it.

In the car, in your room, even at school. Tis the season!

This last tip is the most important, because this is the season where you really should step back and think about how much the people in your life mean to you. These are the people that make you smile throughout the day, so now is definitely the time to show more appreciation than ever. Just spending time with friends, or family for that matter, is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Enjoy this festive and merry time with those you love the most.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.

A bad day at the lake is still better than a good day not at the lake.

You know the best beaches and coves to go to.

The cooler is always packed, mostly with beer.

Giving the idiot who goes 30 in a "No Wake Zone" a piece of your mind.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

1. My school is incredibly unique.

2. I am not just a number at my school.

3. I feel like I am contributing something to the community.

5. My professors know me and I feel that I can easily communicate with them.

9. Ability to join a sorority and have a house full of people I know I can talk to anytime I need to

10. I have figured out how I learn best because my school offers so many different ways of learning.
