1. Oh boy, it's going to snow tonight!
At least for me, hearing it's going to snow is an extremely exciting, yet fleeting, moment.
2. Oh BOY, it's going to snow tonight...
Our initial enthusiasm wears off as we remember how literally everyone forgets how to drive when it's snowing.
3. It's just started snowing, and the world seems so still and peaceful and beautiful.
There's nothing quite like watching snow blow this way and that...
4. And then a snowflake lands in my eye!
Arg! It's cold, it's wet, it kind of hurts.
5. "I hate snow."
Truly. I do. I garner NO joy from it whatsoever.
6. After an overnight snowfall, the world looks so beautiful and personally, I really want to build a snowman 24/7.
If I wake up to a fresh couple inches, I am instantly so excited for the day! Even if it'll be cold. I'm still so happy about it.
7. But then we step in snow and our shoes and socks get wet.
I often realize too late that I didn't put on my waterproofed boots. It's a sad and cold realization, and even though I know my shoes are not waterproof, I still walk across the quad rather than around it.
8. Inevitably, we fall over. Either on an icy shoveled path or on a slick, already walked on snow-covered path.
Yep. I wipe out. Probably too much. I'm very clumsy.
9. Then we get inside and we get a hot drink, and the world is right again.
Hot coffee, hot cocoa, hot tea. Whatever strikes our fancy. Even just holding it in my hands warms me up.
10. We watch people who aren't used to snow freak out or struggle hardcore.
I warn my friends from out-of-state not to wear their parkas in October. Do they listen? No. Are they freezing now? Yes. Can I help them? Not really, sadly.
11. Then we see that it snowed less than half an inch in Atlanta, and that school was called off.
I frequently hear from my mother that it snowed a half inch or less by her house, and that people are calling off work and college campuses are closing. What a world.
12. Why wasn't our school called off? WHAT?
We have like 6 inches!?! Where are the standards? The equal opportunity to days off? No? Am I making that up?
13. And then we remember that we live in Chicago, and this happens semi-regularly.
Yep. 6 inches in a couple of days is nothing.
14. And for us Loyola students, we remember the blizzard of years past where the whole city, except our school, shut down.
Literally every school but Loyola. I wasn't even attending then. But we still here the legend of the day Loyola didn't close.
15. And then it starts to snow again.
Yep, I'm excited all over again. And the cycle restarts.
