15 Things You've Totally Said If You Go To A Big School

Why are there so many people?

Going to a big school isn't for everyone. There's a lot of walking, a lot of people, and not a lot of food options. Here are 15 things you've probably said if you go to a big school.

1. "Yeah, my communications class is so small it only has, like, 180 people."

Because almost all of your lectures have at least 400 people.

2. "I can meet you there in like 20 minutes."

It really takes at least 20 minutes to get anywhere on campus.

3. "I really do think I'll be able to make my 15-minute-away-walk-8am three times a week."

You can't and you won't. Drop it now while you can.

4. "The good dining hall is on the other side of campus."

Hmm... walk 40 minutes or starve? I think I have one more ramen packet...

5. "Meet me at Starbucks in 10."

How many Starbucks are there on campus? 5? 6? Who knows! You're always pretty close to one, though, and they make prime meeting spots!

6. "I think I've seen my roommate like twice this week."

Even your sleep schedules are different when there are so many classes you can take. They could be walking back to the dorm during your nap and you're walking to your next class during theirs.

7. "Does my meal plan cover Chic-fil-a?"

There are a bunch of big name restaurants on campus and you just hope and pray that your extra dollars on your meal plan will cover the cost.

8. "Who is that? Are they saying hi to me? Maybe they're in one of my lectures??"

In a school of 40,000 people, you maybe talk to five. So, who is this new person trying to say hi to you? Why have you seen them so many times this week?

9. "We need at least three more libraries"

All of the good study spots are always taken as soon as you have a term paper due next week. Let's just build more.

10. "Will I get a ticket if I park here?"

Why do all big schools have terrible parking? The main parking lot is a 40-minute walk away, but if I park here on the side of the road, maybe campus police won't notice...

11. "Where the hell is this class?"

I've literally never heard of this building. If it's more than a 25-minute walk, I'm not going.

12. "Can I skip this class today? It's just so far..."

It's 9 a.m., your bed is so warm, your class is so far away. What to do, what to do?

13. *Hits 10,000 steps by 11 a.m.*

This just gives you another excuse to not go to the gym, honestly. Even the gym is a half an hour walk away.

14. "Did the other 400 people in this class fail, too?"

Maybe I'm just stupid... but maybe we're all stupid... together.

15. "I'm pretty sure there are more people at this party than there were in my graduating class."

This is true especially if you went to a small high school. For me, my graduating class could all be in one place at one time and it wouldn't even be a significant population difference.

But at the end of the day, you love your huge school. The thirty minute walks aren't so bad at such a cool place.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
