1. The joy of getting to skip class because you have to travel to another city to perform.
“Oh yeah, my choir has a gig tonight.” Best. Excuse. Ever.
2. Finding out your choir is singing a contemporary song, and going absolutely nuts.
What have we done to deserve this reward? Is this heaven? Or Glee?
3. Or, finding out there will be a rap solo, and practicing for it day and night.
I am NOT throwing away my shot.
4. Car/van/bus rides that turn into full on concerts.
Did we need to belt “Sweet Child Of Mine” in perfect eight part harmony? No. Did it happen? Yeah. Did we kill it? Heck yeah.
6. Waking up with the dreaded throat tickle, and thinking, this CANNOT be happening.
Getting sick before rehearsal or a recital is pretty much your worst nightmare realized. Stephen King could probably write a best-selling novel about it.
7. The fun of going on vocal rest and not having to talk to annoying people.
It’s usually genuinely needed, but it’s a good excuse to avoid dreaded small talk.
8. Or, having to go on vocal rest and hating your life because you have a lot to talk about.
And getting carpal tunnel from writing furiously on the dry-erase board. Also, wishing you and your friends were fluent in sign language.
9. The sheer fun and pure exhaustion of traveling with your choir.
There will be no sleep. Only fun.
10. Having to perform after a night of fun with your choir fam.
How we go from dead skull emoji to dancing twins with bunny ears emoji, we will never understand. Just pure talent, I guess.
11. The pain of avoiding dairy on performance days.
Can I have coconut milk in my white mocha instead? *Sighs* …The things I do for my craft.
12. Gaining the confidence to be your total self.
Choir and other musical people are so loving and accepting, so being your total kooky self ain’t no thang.
13. The thrill when your friends absolutely slay a solo.
And fighting back tears during the performance because you’re so stinking proud of your talented friends.
14. The joy of absolutely KILLING a piece in recital.
“Were you crying?” “Yeah, I was crying.” “Yeah, same.”
15. Wondering how you survived before meeting your choir family.
Seriously, how did I even function?
