5 Below--not to be confused with a store of winter clothing (as in 5 degrees and below), but a higher priced dollar store- $5 and below. If you have had the pleasure to work at one of these stores you can relate to these 15 things:
1. Customer's classic lines
When you check someone out who bought one $5 item, give them the total with tax, and they say "I thought this was 5 below?"-- hahaha, so funny! Or when you check a $20, $50, or $100 bill and the customer says, "It should be fine I just printed it this morning!"
2. Never knowing where something is
Since almost everything moves around 5 times a week, every time you go in for a shift it is guaranteed that it has moved from the last place you saw it.
3. The worlds
Candy, party, tech, craft, sport, room, style, now.
4. Emails
Getting your email percentage up to 30 percent every week is a struggle.
5. On calls
You have an on call on Friday night? Better not make any plans in case you work--then if you don't work just sit at home since everyone else already has plans.
6. MusicThe endless loop of Justin Bieber music and "wip nae nae" that gets stuck in your head.
7. Opening and Closing
When customers are standing outside of the door in the morning and come in a minute before closing because everyone forgets you close at 9:00 p.m.
8. Surveys
The amazing feeling when someone fills out a survey, gives all 10's, AND mentions you.
9. Unbagging
When your manager asks you to unbag shoes and you want to cry.
10. The Discount
When you see something you want, you have to buy it because the discount is dangerous. Really 4 Below for employees.
11. Staff
The staff is made up of some of the coolest people ever, who become your good friends.
12. Holidays
The most wonderful time of the year means the most freight and customers you've ever seen in the store.
13. Price checking
The fact that you have to price check stuff all the time because there's so many products you just can't remember how much it is..at least you know it's under $5.
14. Total
When you check a customer out who bought one $5 item and you tell them the total after tax and they say "I thought this was 5 below?"
15. Candy
The fact that during your whole shift you're constantly staring at 50 different kinds of candy--it gets dangerous.
