15 Things To Do Instead Of Homework

Need new ways to procrastinate?

Disclaimer: I usually don't have a hard time concentrating. I'm not a big procrastinator, but something about this semester is making it hard to focus. For example, I'm writing this article instead of reading my textbook. I'm just not ready for summer to be over yet. If you feel the same and need new ways to procrastinate, here are some of the things I've been doing instead of homework.

1. Stress eating.

Ever since I got back to school, I've been snacking ten times more than I was at home over the summer. I'm not more hungry than I was then. It's just comforting to eat an excessive amount of chocolate chip cookies.

2. Taking walks.

Yesterday, I walked from class to my residential hall, walked back across campus to the library, and took a walk around campus before finally sitting down to work on homework. My excuse is that after sitting in classes all day, I don't want to sit more.

3. Finding a new place to do homework.

My room on campus this semester is humid and freezing which is a terrible combination for someone who is cold all the time, so I walked around campus scoping out a new place to work. I had to find an unoccupied bench, outside because the buildings are cold, and out of the sun because I get burnt easily.

4. Going to dinner.

Even though I've eaten a ton of snacks so I'm not really hungry, I still put my homework down and go to dinner at the same time everyday. Just because I'm procrastinating doesn't mean I don't want to stick to a schedule.

5. Waiting for inspiration.

I stared at my computer screen trying to write a blog post for at least twenty minutes. The next twenty minutes was spent flipping through my Pandora stations trying to find the perfect song.

6. Cleaning.

You know your procrastination is bad when you decide to clean instead of do your homework.

7. Talking to friends.

College is about more than school. It's about socializing, so I went on a coffee run with a friend instead of going to the library to study.

8. Helping friends.

It's amazing what you'll say yes to when you want to avoid your own responsibilities.

9. Talking with family.

Not much has happened since I've been back, but that didn't stop me from texting my mom.

10. Scrolling through Pinterest.

Pinterest eats all of my time. There are recipes, beauty pins, character inspiration, setting inspiration, quotes. Pinterest has everything.

11. Online shopping.

I don't actually shop much, and I don't like shopping online. However, browsing Amazon and make-up box subscriptions is always fun.

12. Watching YouTube videos.

I've been watching a little bit of everything: beauty tutorials, try not to laugh videos, and sad fandom mash-ups. It's a nice break from the homework I'm not doing.

13. Exercising.

I always say I'm going to exercise, but it's one of the things I procrastinate on the most. If I go to the gym before I do homework, then I'm really struggling.

14. Making playlists.

Everything is better with a playlist. I have at least five I've been working on.

15. Organizing your desk.

Instead of doing homework the other day, I reorganized my entire desk and attempted to hang pictures on my walls.

The first few weeks of the semester are always an adjustment, but once we get into the swing of things, everything should go smoother.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
