Most people living in the South have experienced a hurricane or two in their lifetime. Having to evacuate while in college is a uniquely stressful situation, never knowing what plan of action your school is going to take. We all tend to go through similar stages of denial, acceptance, and panic.
1. Hearing about the storm for the first time
2. Acting like it's no big deal
3. When everyone else around you starts to panic
4. When you casually go to get gas or water and it is World War III out there
5. When the panic finally starts to set in despite your denial
6. Waiting for classes to get canceled
7. Thinking you'll die before your college actually cancels class
8. When they actually cancel class
9. Frantically packing everything you own to evacuate
10. Watching the path of the storm change all over the place and not knowing how to feel
11. Boarding up your apartment very thoroughly
12. Saying goodbye to your roommates like you may never see them again
13. Sitting in bumper to bumper traffic trying to get out of town
14. When the storm changes path and you realize you've completely over reacted
15. But not being mad because you get a mini vaycay out of it
Evacuating from a hurricane can be a very stressful time but I am so thankful that my town wasn't greatly affected and am sending my prayers to those that were.
