15 Songs For Your Summer Road Trip

Car rides can be the highlight or the longest never-ending part of a road trip. Without any panoramic natural sight-seeing stops, or fascinating out of the blue, the thought that crosses my mind is maybe if I sleep through the car ride knowing there isn't anything interesting, I'll have enough energy for the actual place that we are going. However, if you happened to be the driver, sleeping is not the safest option. So I comprised a list of road trip songs, (sing-a-longs) to make the trip more interesting when driving through never-ending cornfield.

15. The Proclaimers - 500 miles

This is the hit song that was the essential road trip and the catchiest song from the TV show How I Met Your Mother., sings about

Luckily enough, you probably won't be walking 500 miles as part of the road trip but driving it instead.

14. Route 66

One of these summers my goal is to drive on Route 66 stopping at all the places along the way. Although there are several versions of this song that include a jazzy rhythm, a slow steady beat, but I am a fan of the upbeat modernized version by John Mayer.

13. Life is a Highway- Tom Cochrane

The song that everyone has heard of at least at one part of their life. This rock song expresses the idea to not hesitate about the road we don't know about.

12. Holiday Road- Lindsey Buckingham

This song is the theme song in the old classic movies, National Lampoon's Vacation. I included it in this list because whenever the Griswold (the family in the National Lampoon's Vacation) took a road trip this song would be playing in the background.

11. Vacation - The Go Go's

I wait with anticipation about the next family road trip each year, eagerly asking and suggesting where we could go and where should we definitely go. Naturally this song is playing in the back of my head while I plan a summer family vacation in the middle of December (or in May when finals are upon us).

10. Summer of '69- Bryan Adams

This song brings out the nostalgia of summer and although it doesn't necessarily talk about road trips it does talk about the good memories of spending quality time with loved ones.

9. Fun Fun Fun- The Beach Boys

Isn't that what we are looking in a summer road trip or vacation day is to have fun?

8. Best I Ever Had- Gavin Degraw

This song's rushed tempo makes this song make the adventure exciting while driving on an empty road.

7. Hotel California- The Eagles

This song has this down to earth vibe that makes it a great campfire song on your road trip.

6. I Lived - One Republic

After the road trip or vacation that you take, know that there is more to explore, but hopefully like the lyrics say that you did, "owned every second, that this world could give. I saw so many places. And things that I did of every broken bone. I swear I lived."

5. A Thousand Miles - Vanessa Carlton

Whether you prefer to walk 500 miles, or a 1,000 miles, I would still recommend driving. This song is a song meant to be sung in the car.

4. On Top of The World- Imagine Dragons

After arriving at your destination, and you decide to hike somewhere and finally reach the peak. This is the song I recommend singing.

3. Pompeii - Bastille

Although I've never visited Pompeii in Italy, I researched it's devastating history which is captured in the lyrics in the song. This is the greatest song to sing with a large group of friends on your vacation trip.

2. I'm Born to Run- American Authors

"I wanna see Paris.. I wanna see Tokyo.. I wanna be careless" These lyrics are the anthem of the adventure seeker, and the traveler. This song provides the perfect message of having this "never-holding back" attitude.

1. It's My Life- Bon Jovi

This is my go-to song, never-give-up song when it comes to taking chances in life or doing the most outrageous thing possible. I always pictured someone shouting this song after reaching their destination after a hectic trip. If this song isn't blaring through your speakers while driving with your windows down, are you really taking a trip of a life-time?

Where ever you're going these songs will be the perfect background music to get through the boring part of the car ride.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
